Not really, all products drop in value. Every single product has dropped in value from the original release, it is just simple hype and supply and demand.

Some people just don't have patience to wait out a new release.

This might be true for upper deck, but it's not true for everyone else:

Topps has a fighting product that has climbed since release and never looked back. I think the case prices are $9,000 and climbing!

Tristar released a loaded product in 2006 called Prospects Plus that's still above it's release price with cards selling well enough still that it's a good break.

I'm sure there are others like the Sportkings Super Boxes that always sell for more than release price if you can find any of them to buy. With a guaranteed 1/1 hit in EACH box that has an average sell value of close to $600, this product is a winner every single time it's released. There's a reason less than a handful of sealed boxes have ever hit ebay for sale, and that's because there is so much value in these boxes that you are almost guaranteed to not lose any money. Unlike upper deck where the exact opposite is true.

You can add Press Pass Showcase Racing into that as well. A high end product done they way a high end product should be done - loaded with value.

I agree.

I'm sure there are many products that are great values. I wonder if upper deck has any?

Anyone know?

Now's the time to buy, with ebay over loaded with all of these. Some good prices in my opinion, hopefully once season starts you might make a great flip.
I'm trying to pick up several of the 09-10 Exquisite Auto RCs

No doubt that you have the right idea. I hope some of those rookies pay off for you.

It's been a buyers market all year, and it's not going to change anytime soon. I honestly feel for what's in store for the card companies ahead. If everyone is smart, they will stop buying sealed product right now and wait until production is cut WAY back. That will be the time to start buying again because those will be some of the most sought after modern day cards simply because of scarcity, and by that time, hopefully the economy will have started to turn around. The worst is yet to come I'm afraid.

mwheeler,

Don't get me wrong, I know the entire argument and also agree that the price point on exquisite was double what it should have been. I can only imagine what my expectations would be if UD ever tried to do that in a hockey product.

The Cup though has held up as a quality value year after year. It's one of the few things that UD has done right. But if they start putting old base cards in this year's product, cancel that thought.

me and bball had a small exchange over pm and i wanted to share this. we were arguing over pannini and UD.

(me)
"a guy on youtube pulled a blake griffen on card auto(the ones you say look bad due to the pics in the corner) and a ty lawson sticker auto. two amazing hits! now tell me would you be complaining that it was a sticker, or bad pics?"

after sharing this amazing box he comes back and says

"He wouldn't even make his money back in that box."

so your saying that pulling a #1 pick on card auto and a lawson sticker auto is a bad box? these are 2 of the best rookies this year.
09-10 Panini Prestige Blake Griffin Draft Pick Auto - eBay (item 320435153887 end time Oct-12-09 12:07:50 PDT)

here is the card he pulled. he made 20 bucks right there. the lawson could pull in 10 or so and the extra auto and 2 ju's he got will just make it even better!

Lets look at recent sales of that besides your $100 that you pulled from a while ago:
$53.00
$59.99
$56.78
$68.99
$66.00
$76.00

On average that is around $63 or so. Assuming the box cost $80, he would have the Lawson at $10, which would be $73. He could probably get $5 or so from the 2 GU's. He wouldn't even make his money back pulling a #1 Draft Pick Auto out of a single box... And that is one of the best cards you can get. Talk about a low return value.

You get 2 of the "best rookies" from the draft class and you don't even make your money back. What a joke.

here are some other nice hits, that is not the best you can get.

09/10 Prestige Tyler Hansbrough UNC Patch RC Auto /100 - eBay (item 290359788964 end time Oct-15-09 15:30:15 PDT)

09-10 Prestige Auto NBA Logoman Tyler Hansbrough 2/10 - eBay (item 160369074507 end time Oct-15-09 15:27:28 PDT)

09-10 Prestige Auto RC Logoman Tyler Hansbrough 10/10 - eBay (item 370271451850 end time Oct-14-09 08:50:08 PDT)

these are from a lower pick and yet they still rake in some good cash.

Keep in mind Prestige cards are at the peak of their release and will only drop in value. So the BEST card you can pull from this product is only worth $320? From an $80 product... THAT IS A JOKE! The best card in this entire product is a Blake Rc Auto "Logoman", which went for $320 at its PEAK! Lets look at this

09/10 Topps Jumbo ($80): You can pull cards worth $1400 and there are MANY cards worth $500+
08/09 Topps Treasury ($80): You can pull cards worth $2000 and there are many cards worth $400+
08/09 Ultimate Basketball ($90): You can pull cards worth $8250 and there are SO MANY cards worth $500+

This list goes on and on...

What is the point in busting a box of Prestige if you can only get $240 in profit MAX where you can get $1000's in other products. What is the fun of busting it if there are no chances at that BIG MOJO? If you bust several boxes of Prestige you are almost guaranteed to lose money even if you get the BEST CARD IN THE ENTIRE PRODUCT. On average the autos are worth around $10 or so. That is a $20 return each box of $80 on average. Even if you "get lucky" and pull a Gerald Henderson Auto "Logoman" /10 you still lose almost half your money.

your not getting my point. what panini tried to do was to make a quality product. with UD it was usually make a lot of money or lose a lot, and 90% of the time it was a loss. panini is trying to help you at least come close to making your money back if not go beyond. als its more of the "fun" of opening a box than anything, and when you dont have to worry about losing a lot of money, that is a good product.

OMG!! I just showed how you will make $20 on average in an $80 box. How is that at all close to your money back? Yes UD had some HIT or miss products but the key word there is HIT! With Panini it is a break even or miss product, where you can never pull a HIT! You do have to worry about losing money when you on average will get $20 back, are you kidding me?

WOW. Cool! Another one of Panini's best cards you are showing me barely reached $200! A Blake Griffin Rc Auto SP /25 only went for $220? WOW. This product is a joke. I also hope you realize that card will be selling for less than $150 in a matter of weeks.

MOST of the breaks i have seen have either made a few bucks or come even. i remember 2 losses and they were not too bad. my point is this is more of a "play it safe box" than a make a lot or lose a lot gamble.

Just because you like the cards doesn't mean they break even. I have been looking at all the breaks on this forum and THEY ALL SUCKED. EVERY SINGLE one of them lost A LOT of money except for 1 or 2. Please show me all of the good breaks!
