Hey guys, what do you think is the best card from an investment point of view?
Cards that are around the $1000 mark
I would love to hear opinions!

Jordan and Wilt, nothing else is a sure shot.

Definitely don't buy any of the new stuff. It loses value like nothing I have ever seen.

you can buy an aaron rodgers contenders auto and hope the pack win the super bowl. or a guaranteed profit would be to just spend 1,000 on a couple chrome prospect autos like Mike trout or Harper and sell during spring training. Spring training every year are guaranteed profits as people flock eBay to stock up on baseball for the season

Between UD and Panini, there hasn't been a high end Lebron card produced in the past 3 years.

Anything vintage. If you are trying to invest large amounts of money on current cards you will have just as much luck putting your cash in a paper shredder.

Why vintage? I havent seen any vintage cards boogy in the past 2 yrs.

Infact why "invest" in sports cards? They arent a commodity thats valued anything outside of the hobby. They can be used for barter nor exchanged for cash. I dont know how anyone sees sportscards as anything else but a hobby?

If the economy falls out, gold can be used to barter. Can a Wilt rc on paper?

If you need to buy groceries, cash can be used to purchase. Can a Lebron rc?

I don't invest in cards per say I buy them for my own personal enjoyment and if I am able to sell some or all of them so be it. That being said you are absolutely right cards are not liquid assets and if you need $1000 on the spot try taking a Wilt auto or a Jordan rookie to a non collector and see how far you go. That being said if I had to "invest" in cards I would do vintage because you know exactly what you are getting. People who spend large amounts of new cards looking to invest are really gamblers.

I think the OP used the wrong word. Instead of invest, he should be said "Speculate"

Cards are bad vehicle for investment because they arent liquid!! But they are a great for a hobby & enjoyment!!

Silver...gold is to high to be used as a currency.

Crash? Term "bottom falls out". You study economics dont you?

If the economy crashed, just how many people do you think would be sitting on ebay waiting to buy sportscards as their top priority? LOL From an investment standpoint, do you believe you would get a plus ROI on it during a panic time?
