Default How can I tell if this is a Prizm refractor or not?

The guy I got it from had it up as refractor but the BGS case doesn't say anything about being a refractor?

Please help if you know.... Thanks guys!!

Panini calls their refractors "prizms" that's why it's not labeled as a ref, but instead prizms.

The term used for the card is Prizms, which is the second line. People just use refractor for familiarity I guess.

If it's a regular it'll say panini prizm and if it's refractor it'll say panini prizm prizms.

Let say the difference between retail base and a hobby base? I don't want to start buying the wrong ones...

I don't think it's possible other than just seeing the "rainbow" effect of th card. Really should have labeled it someway

Its actually quite easy to tell the rainbow effect on those vs the ones without it. The Drummond in this pic is definitely a "refractor/prizms"

If you hold up a known Prizm and a non-Prizm at the same time you can tell the difference. Another way is to get a stack and "GENTLY" fan through them. You will be able to tell the difference immediately.

Ok cool I see it... So really if theres a bad pic on ebay of one you wouldn't be able to really tell... Next year they need to mark them somehow.. I bet a lot of people are listing them as prizms/refractors when really there not... Just so I have it straight no prizms/refractors in retial only hobby?

Yeah, that's right. It makes it pretty tough to bid unless you can definitely tell it's a refractor from the picture.

There's no difference in base cards between retail and hobby.

Retail packs are marked 'retail' and are only 4 cards per pack. They include Green Prizms, Autographs, and Autograph Prizms /25. Retail does not have Gold or regular Prizms.
