Default Has anyone ever seen (or owned) one of these Kobe Bryant Sign of the Times cards?

2000-01 SP Authentic Sign of the Times #KB Kobe Bryant SP

I've searched the internet high and low for one but can't find another one anywhere. I know the card is short printed, but does anyone have any idea what they've sold for in the past or how many of these were made?

I've seen the platinum version serial numbered out of 8, but I'm wondering if this gold version is even rarer.

That'll be the one I just bought I snapped it up because I've never seen it before and it's from a set I collected back in 2000.

I've never seen this card hit eBay before today, so I was hoping some Kobe collectors could shed some light on it.

Oh is it? my bad man hahaha . I'm pretty sure you'll get your question answered soon enough from some of our well informed members. Great looking card by the way.

I have seen a few, they aren't that rare.

Most have a bubbly auto though, so that might be worth something

Thanks - yeah, it's a real stunner. I remember when I first saw the platinum version I thought it looked great. So I'm excited to get this one.

Quite a few of the autos in this set have bubbly or faded autos, so that's part of the appeal of this one - it looks fine to me.

I just find it strange that I can't find any pictures of this card anywhere on the internet. I know its short printed, but I'm surprised there aren't some on display in Kobe collectors' buckets somewhere.

It would be a nice card for me to keep in my collection, but I'm definitely curious about its value.

I think you got a nice steal.

I can't confirm for sure, but I think this is also SP'ed to only 8. I've personally only seen one sale of this card in the 6 years I've been collecting Kobe:

Why does that say 10 on the finished price?

I think the platinum would be worth more then $500. But I personally never seen the platinum sell before.

The gold versions are the regular versions. The platinum versions were all numbered on the front. I used to have both when I PCd Mo Pete. Here is a scan of both.

I was thinking the same thing earlier when it popped up in my saved searches. I don't think I've ever seen one before today.

There is NO way the gold is rarer than the platinum, though the gold isn't an easy card to find. There's probably 25 of the golds, 8 of the platinum.

All I know is the platinums were stamped with serial numbers. Never seen a gold version with a serial number. SP sure. /8.. no way.

like OJ, i highly doubt the gold is more scarce than the platinum, but they are still very very rare. nice buy. pittsburghsportscards posts some pretty good deals from time to time. i got my bird 09-10 LL from him for what i thought was a good BIN.

Thanks for the info guys. Lots of people saying its not as rare as the platinum (which would make sense) and yet it seems to be harder to come by. It's really strange.

Will, if its one thing I learnt in this hobby, if you don't find it or see it doesn't mean its not out there.

I bet if it sold for a record price you would see quite a bit more popping up

Haha, that's a very interesting point! I've seen that happen before too. It's like the Larry Bird Bowman 48 auto. There were none on eBay for months. Then a few sold for $200-$300, and suddenly there are lots more appearing.
