Does anyone collect sealed boxes? I've been considering starting a "collection."
I thought it might be fun, and definitely take discipline not to bust, ha. Much like we do with cards, I think it would be neat to collect new and old boxes, and keep sealed for the "what if" factor of what could be inside. The end result of collecting them could be to (a) bust 15 years later with my kids, (b) pass down to my kids once I'm gone, or (c) sell if a particular box if it shoots up in price. Thoughts?

I think it's a great idea. Storing the boxes would take a lot of space though, and resisting the temptation to open them would take some discipline. Also, personally, it would defeat the purpose of collecting cards if you can't actually see them (i.e. they're sealed inside the boxes/packs).
But for a long-term investment idea, I say go for it.

It would be easier if it was product you weren't really excited about opening too.
I'd get boxes that are just coming out so as not to pay inflated prices. Also store them out of arms reach, like moms house to kill temptation. Lol |

Are you looking for new or old boxes. I have about 25 sealed bball boxes from the late 90s. Pm me for details on them.

I am leaning towards my collection being more to open with my son in 15 years. I would be lying if I didn't say ROI wasn't a part of it -- so I guess I would stay clear of products with redemptions. Especially ones that redemptions were the case hits.

Umm for value purposes. Lets say Kyrie hits Jordan prices (just for example purposes) and everyone else in this year combined draft class is a bust. It only takes one player to drive sealed box prices sky high, but when that person is a redemption and they are all expired, the value is not there.

if your worried about hitting a expired redemption of a big star. 95% of boxes have redemptions so having said that you will most likely Hit a expired redemption when you go to bust. Hell some of jordans best autos back in the day you would hit the Exchange unautographed card of the real deal and have to send it to UD. |

That mostly happens with certain products. I have seen this with some Fleer and Skybox cards that have high gloss to them.
