I almost forgot about all the NBA players Minnesota produced over the years. Joel Pryzbilla Kris Humphries and Bobby Jackson outside Mchale.

My bad forgot abot Sam Jacobson.

Minnesota won't replace Tubby.

They really need upgraded facilities/new arena, it did wonders for Michigan, for example.

However, there is no way Shaka Smart, Brad Stevens or any other really good coach is going to Minnesota, don't overrate the program, it's been irrelevant for a while.
In great part to Tubby.

How many times have you been to the Barn?

Never have, and I'm sure it's a cool experience as a fan, but recruits could probably care less. You need to have state of the art facilities as a team that wants to be good in the B1G

About time. Tubby was mailing it in. He had a nice run, but game has passed him

Hope they get Flip Saunders in.

Has he ever even coached in college?

Seems like a pretty random name to throw out there

One turney win in his entire time at the u. Not sure what the answer is, but obviously the u feels Tubby isn't it. His teams seemed to consistently underperform comparedto the talent they had. Ballsy move as what's behind door #2 likely will not be better, but staying in limbo isn't the answer either.

Wasn't it their first tournament win since 1997 or something like that?

Flip Saunders started at U of Minnesota, player, assistant coach. Before he went on to pro coaching. He bleeds Minnesota hoops. He is prefect fit for the job. Pretty sure he makes his home there.

Will be great for recruiting with all his NBA connections as well. Kids will want to play for him.

So then you go back to 1989-90 when they made the Elite 8, then?

Look at that fact, and then realize you're scapegoating the coach who was promised new facilities when he took the job (still doesn't have them) and was maybe finally building the program back up.

Exactly...I live in MN and I believe this is a good move. Like they said on ESPN, it's amazing how much NBA worthy talent his last couple of teams have had, yet the team does nothing. He's had multiple players leave the Gophers for other teams, and they've always flourished more so then when they played for Tubby.

Look at that fact. So, who exactly played in the Final Four in 97? Also, he wasn't going to do a good job without the new facilities? And how many years is a guy supposed to get to build something back up?

Michigan State and Michigan combined have the same amount of players in the NBA top 50 as Minnesota. One.

And the draft history isn't as far apart as you'd like to not-know:

NBA draft history - Top 50 colleges - Hispanosnba.com

Michigan: 20 first rounders
Minnesota: 18 first rounders
Michigan St: 16 first rounders

So just because you don't know about Gophers in the NBA doesn't mean there weren't any. Just means you don't know about them.

He was doing a far better job than what had been going on (cleanly), previously.

Believe it or not, new facilities matter a lot.

Why are you listening to people on ESPN What did the people on this forum say. They're in the know

What was the unclean part? Care to enlighten me? I mean, I must have been watching someone that year when I graduated from the U.

Looks like there was a period where the accomplishments got stripped. Don't play dumb now.

Minnesota is the worst program in the Big 10 year in and year out...

Well its either Northwestern or Minnesota.

Iowa I believe is above them both..

Tubby is a solid coach and the Gophers have to be realistic about who they will find to replace him. Won't be any of the big names I am willing to bet.
