Flip turned down the Gophers job. Gophers apparently reached out to Enfield of FGCU.

Haha.. Minnesota is not a premier position and they just fired a hell of a coach. What were you expecting. I think Pitino is a hell of a hire.. Great recruiter and X's and O's coach..

This is just a continuation of the great Minnesota basketball tradition.

This is confusing to me. How is he a great recruiter? He recruited for his dad (one of the best coaches in the country) and Billy Donovan (one of the best coaches in the country). Also at great programs. It is probably easier to go into Tyus Jones house and ask, "Hey Tyus, want to play at FL or Louisville and play for one of the best coaches in the country?"
Now he goes into the house and says, "Hey Tyus Jones, I know you've never heard of me, but would you like to come play for me at MN where we haven't done a damn thing in forever?" It's not the same.

I would have loved Brad Stevens or Flip, but they weren't realistic.
Tubby hasn't developed a recruit (of which he didn't get many highly rated) since he was at Georgia. He is an incredibly nice guy that does a ton for charity. It doesn't make him a good coach. As someone who has watched every Gopher game for about 30 years, I think I am qualified to say that.

I love the Gophers. They were embarrassing to watch for most of the Big Ten season. Offensively they were lost. Who in the world doesn't know that Northwestern is going to play a 1-3-1? It looked like they had never seen anything like it. Unprepared. Defensively, it looked like they didn't know who the best player on the other team was half the time.

Congrats on winning one NCAA game in your 6 seasons as Gopher coach. We did get the NIT runner up last year.

How many players did the Gophers lose to other programs?
Paul Carter (Although he may have left because he had a sick sister he wanted to be near)
Devoe Joseph (Got better at Oregon)
Colton Iverson (Thrived at Colorado State)
Justin Cobbs (Standout at California)
Chip Armelin (left for Southern Miss)
Royce White (He did have some legal troubles)

In addition to all the players he didn't get from this state.

/end rant

You're right, much easier to sell a program like Florida or UL. But with a job like Minnesota, you can still push the Big 10. Shouldn't be extremely difficult to recruit middle tier prospects and develop them over a few seasons. I understand that Minn fans may be a little raw about Pitino, but you're right.. A guy like Brad Stevens is not likely leaving Butler, and if he does, I see only a handful of places that would draw him in.

The thing about talking about next season at this point is that there are still too many unknowns. Just enjoy the offseason and see what pans out.. And at least you don't live in kentucky like I do, where UK has already hung next years banner..

I thought they tried that out last season, and how did that go?
