Boston Celtics still get Pat Riley riled up - ESPN Boston

This is a great article with some of the history between Ainge and Riley, just makes me laugh. I didnt know Riley hated Boston THAT much.

Peter May is a Boston writer so it does have the Celtics side of this, but still funny none the less

LeBron is the best player ever in the history so when this time he didn't get what he wanted, he winned a little bit. Same for LeBron fans.

Rivalaries were so much more intense back then. The hate was real.

Even back then Ainge admitted what he was, unlike these clowns today. Also notice the normal (non flagrant) foul Bird takes at 1:22. Back then whining was the exception, today it is the norm unfortunately.

Do you know why it was the exception back then? Because you could get your payback, cheap shots in, or have an enforcer do it for you.

Today you can't get in someones face without the league wanting to suspend you.

You know it's funny/sad- back in the day a bunch of black basketball players get into a scuffle/fight-they are just showing emotion/they play hard/ It's just part of the game. And we all beg for those days!!!

Today (auburn hills fight) the league freaks out and people say that everyone is a thug and ghetto and there is no place in the game for that type stuff!!!!

You want the players to not be sissified but then the second they put a shot on some one you call them cheap/thugs/ghetto, etc.

edit- not you as in the person i quoted, you as in fans

I find it kind if funny that people don't think bird, magic, Jordan an others were some of the biggest complainers.

10 Minutes in and still have not seen one guy complain. Good luck finding that in today's game.

If lebron had flipped out on a ref like that.. how long until you had 50 threads on here blasting him for it? lol

Lebron and others have full blown conversations or scream AND 1 after every drive.

No way is that close to what was going on in the 80s/90s.

Its a normal progression....stronger, faster, richer athletes think they are entitled to more.

I have noticed about 80% of players do this now.. I don't like it. I don't like when Dwyane Wade screams "HEY!!" when he's hit either.. makes the ref take him less seriously

Yeah Paul Pierce is notorious with the whining, we get it, you are probably right but when you try to talk to the ref ALL the time, no ones gonna take you seriously.

Lebron, Wade, Pierce, I am sure there are others who dont need the ref's help always whine for some strange reason.

All that being said.. they don't literally go after the ref when the call them for a foul like Jordan did in that video. "Jordan Rules" went to his head I think.. he thought he never fouled anyone

The style of play and rules have changed night and day as well.

Superstars have and always will complain.

i know and it has only gotten worse, you even look crosseyed at someone and the league will suspend you.

Either the fans have a disconnect or the nba does.

Back in the day you could basically piledrive someone and it was ok, and we all talk about the glory days.

Now a days they have 9 (sarcastic) different types of fouls and have to determine what kind they are, etc.

We want the rough play but the nba thinks we want this to be a gentlemans game??

Where did we or the nba go wrong?

Like i said previously, we are part to blame. Went want the old rough style but as soon as we see it the we call them thugs, ghetto, and say there is no place in the game for it.

Make up your mind hypocrites

apparently Lebron was.... right
