Default LOL... David Stern really has no shame..

This made me laugh out loud..

Doris Burke just asked him "What do you think of the Hack a Shaq play?"

Stern's reply (paraphrased)..."Well as a fan, I think there should a rule preventing that from happening...as Commissioner, I 100% agree with the owners who do not want a rule like that at all"

lol

He is right though IMO. As a fan it sucks to watch, but the bottom line is winning. If a player can't hit his free throws that's a weakness that should be exploited. There definitely should NOT be a rule against the "hack-a-shaq" tactic.

As a fan, Hack-a-Shaq sucks because it slows the game down and makes it boring.

As a strategy, you can't legislate it out of time game. If a team doesn't like people doing it against them, stop acquiring players that can't make free throws.

Same (or similar) as intentional walk. It is there for a reason.

That was a pretty awkward interview.

That's because he's employed by the owners, so he's saying what he believes based on his job vs not. If you owned a card shop, maybe you would say "there should be a rule against internet retailers selling Panini products below MSRP for the first 30 days after release" and if you're a card collector, you probably would hate that rule. Panini saw both sides of this argument and ultimately decided to side with the customer.

Let me try laying it out so you can understand. You have different incentives to like or dislike any rule depending on what your circumstances are. Criminals hate the law, non-criminals like it. David Stern is no different - he is just saying he can appreciate both sides of the argument.

He's got a horrible personality but he will go down as the best sports commish ever. Since he has been in charge basketball has become a worldwide sport and grown more than any other.
