This was when I first got back into the hobby and had yet to realize the 90's insert boom. Long story short I damaged the card trying to break it out and it ended up selling for like $90 in a live auction.

What are some of the ignorant/stupid things you've done....
Omg!!! Tellme this is not true!!!!

Back when I was much younger I passed on a box of Skybox Metal. Now granted it was nothing special, but somebody I knew bought the box and ended up pulling autographics of both David Robinson and Tim Duncan in the same box. Even though he knows I collect both players he never even offered to sell them to me.

Yea...I think I'm gonna go with silv and gold for investment and just do this hobby for fun. Just started out and seems real difficult to make huge profits unless you have BANK or get lucky busting wax (which I hate).

Why on earth would I turn down the shop owner who was trying to rid himself of 86 fleer for packs of 86 topps baseball. I think my parents bought me a box every so often from Price club. I need Blake Griffin's car to back in time and talk to myself. A good slap up side the head would do. No, I did not get the traded set of 86 topps, just the regular version. I think I continued my run of topps baseball into the 1987 season.
This +1...Still remember the muliple boxes of 86-87 Fleer at Shopko(dept/store) just sitting there...Was even marked down to .25 pack for a long time, Did I buy any, even though I was into basketball and not baseball, NO. I just bought the 1987 Topps Baseball packs on the next shelf....

Met a guy/dealer at a card show in the same mall years later and we started talking about all his 86-87 Fleer he had. Yeah he said "Man I picked up all those boxes at .25 pack just down there (pointing towards Shopko) What a deal that turned out to be"

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well when I first got into the hobby my mom worked at 7-11 district office and at the same time stopped selling cards. Well she brought me home some 100 different packs in which I pulled a 2001 Absolute Mem Albert Pujols home opener souveniers base swatch auto #ed to 400. Well traded it for two Fleer hobby boxes of 02 or 03 mystique football. only to find out only 25 were actually autographed. Sad to say the dealer knew and actually helped me pick some boxes.

The first thing I bought when I got into the hobby was an 06-07 Fleer blaster.

When I opened the first pack and saw the 86-87 insert, I thought it was the MJ rookie. Squealed like a little girl as I peeled the cards back, and it ended up being a Kurt Thomas card. I felt pretty dumb for expecting such a card on my first ever pack, but I guess all I can do is laugh at myself now. Still have the empty blaster box as a keepsake.

In 1989 I sold the entire 86-87 fleer basketball set to a LCS for $200.00. At the time I thought I got a great deal

I turned down a $600 offer on a Carmelo Anthony Rc Auto back in the day. Had just gotten back into collecting and thought I could get more. Ended up selling it for $200 years later. Still drives me nuts thinking about it!

I know your pain.....I sold the 1/25 with an unbelievable patch for 600. If I would have waited about a week it would have been a 5-6k card

I got of college in 1996

Got back in the hobby for first time since 1988 ish

Only did basketball...

Went crazy...

Opened probably 40-50 cases of 1996-1999 topps chrome finest etc..

probably 15-20 cases of mjx spx fleer products..

over a period of 1996-2000...

Had so many jordans 100's and 100's

ultra platinum refractors tons of #ed stuff on and on and on

Sold all of it probably for about 2% of what is it worth now

I dont follow the late 90's insert thing to much probably because it would make me sick

But every once in a while i will see a card on ebay that sold for 400-500 dollars

and im like i used to have that...

Another one i remember is i opened cases and cases of Flair because i loved the looked i bet i had 50-100 of the legacys or ones #ed to 150

i remember when jerseys just came out they were one per case.... i sold those for a lot so i won one battle.. but mostly a massive loss of probably 10,000 dolalrs in todays market

lmao...

I got scammed by Haiku in his very very very early days for a cheap SP signature Kobe auto (he had a hefty amount of positive feedback and so I had no problem sending at the same time... sure enough, my side never came in).

Other than that, nothing too bad. Most problems/road bumps have worked out for me

some great (Horrific) stories here!

i really dont have many regrets at all,

well other then - when i moved out of home as i was settling into my new house i decided to open this large box of my whole childhood card collection that had been sealed and put away for years, you know, for old times sake! they were all early/mid 90s so there was nothing of any value. but i suddenly got the urge to complete those old sets i never managed to do as a kid. man...if i had not of opened that pandoras box! this hobby is a massive addiction, as much as i want to stop spending money and get away from it, i just cannot help it! im a collector at heart!

Pulled this card in 2009...I busted multipule cases of 2009 Bowman Draft and had about 6 base or Refractor Trouts. I was selling the base for about $20 each and the refractors for like $35 around Feb 2010. I sold this bad boy for a huge profit back then and then fast forward to now (and someone got it graded too) I lost a ton of money on that

Selling my biggest pull, 09-10 Jordan Number Pieces. That sort of sentimental value will never be bought again, not to mention the card sells for 6x what I sold it for now.

Then selling my second biggest pull (Bill Russell Rookie Retro) to a "collector" who turned out to be a total douche.

The prices are inflated as hell, realistically probably 8k, but who knows

http://www.ebay.com/itm/09-10-Exquis...item3f24ac9396

He is going to "sell" it to a 0 feedback bidder or pull it, horrible auto an all.
