Smile Dumbest thing you've ever done in the hobby...

1. Traded 12k worth of Lebron/KD...my part of the trade never came. (Lets not turn this into another holy war please...it is what it is and now I can look back and laugh at myself).

2. Tried to break a Kobe Legacy Collection /150, 98 I believe, out of it's psa 9 case as I was going to resub through BGS. This was when I first got back into the hobby and had yet to realize the 90's insert boom. Long story short I damaged the card trying to break it out and it ended up selling for like $90 in a live auction.

What are some of the ignorant/stupid things you've done....

In the summer of 1986, I was offered some 86 fleer basketball cards by a card shop owner who saw my Lakers shirt. My response, "No thank you, I collect baseball." I was attempting to put together the set that year. Never played a lot of baseball personally, but I played b-ball through college. Why on earth would I turn down the shop owner who was trying to rid himself of 86 fleer for packs of 86 topps baseball. I think my parents bought me a box every so often from Price club. I need Blake Griffin's car to back in time and talk to myself. A good slap up side the head would do. No, I did not get the traded set of 86 topps, just the regular version. I think I continued my run of topps baseball into the 1987 season.

When I first started selling cards in 2010, I had been a collector fpr 25 years and followed Beckett prices, and wasn't really aware of the eBay prices.

I pulled a 09-10 Elite NBA Collison die cut RC (no auto, no jsy), numbered 2/2. I did tons of "Beckett" price research, and came to a value of $400. Someone inquired about the card on this forum, and I asked $400 for it. Of course I never heard from that person again. I put the card up on eBay thinking fine, I'll probably get $500 for it.

Collison had a few bad games in a row and it sold for $26.

I learned a valuable lesson that day about the card business. But I felt stupid as hell about it.

Not this hobby per se, but several years ago I bought Spiderman #1 comic on ebay from a Frenchman. He wouldn't take paypal but accepted moneybookers with whom I had an account. Sent him the money, he (supposedly) sent the comic (with the ebay auction printout all on the outside!!), and it arrived with a slit in the bottom of the envelope and nothing inside.
He claimed the insurance and kept that for himself, so got paid twice in effect, I got nothing because I paid through moneybookers (like Western Union) and used my credit card to fund that like a cash advance rather than a purchase, so I was screwed.

$8000NZ lesson in online purchasing there...

Ouch, that one really had to hurt. But bad karma is probably following him around like a shadow since then.

I am very serious! I would obsolutely trade silver for my cards that are for sale. Matter of fact, I would prefer silver and gold more so than paper money. I'm all ears if someone ever wants to puchase any cards using silver and gold.

I hit a bryce harper gold refractor auto /50 and refractor auto /500 from a 2011 bowman chrome group break. I sent them to beckett to get graded. The package disappeared for a couple weeks and was finally returned to me, soaking wet. The cards were both slightly warped. I decided to try to correct it by putting a lot of weight onto them to flatten them back out. I damaged the gold further. I then punched a wall.

Just curious, why Yi? Nothing against you, just never heard of a fan of him.

Derrick Rose 08/09 Upper Deck 1st Ed Retail Only Gold Variation Rookie Standouts /5 for $800. I've gotten offers on here for $1500 plus since then. Other than that, busting 10/11 Gold Standard. It was the most addictive product I swear.
