If you think Brian Shaw has more coaching experience than Kidd your highly mistaken.

I am convinced something is wrong with Shaw. He seems like such a great, no brainer pick up yet all these teams the last two years keep on passing him up.

Kidd as a coach to the Nets is VERY smart. He knows everything there is to know about basketball. His players will give him the UTMOST respect. He is young and hungry and will work very hard to be the best coach in the NBA. Learning curve should be relatively easy for him. PG's are basically assistant coaches anyway, just as catchers are semi-coaches too.

I am all for it. He will instantly command respect of the locker room, something PJC and Avery could not do. I feel he would be a great coach to develop guys like Ty and Marshon as well. As long as he has some seasoned assistants around him, I think it will be a great move for the future of the team. And by reading stuff around Nets forums and people who have ties to the front office, it seems like Kidd is going to be named the coach Thursday, around the time of the Finals to get major publicity.

I'm really unsure on this, just not sure he is ready to jump right in as a head coach. I'd love him as an assistant coach.

It's worth a shot maybe he could get Derron Williams and Joe Johnson on the same page. I don't think there are any better candidates for the Nets. Their chances of a championship are slim to none anyway, Kidd should get the most out of his players and be a fan favorite since he gave a lot to that Franchise while he was playing.

I think that J-Kidd will be an excellent coach one day I just would like to see him get a few years of seasoning as an assistant first.

The problem with Kidd is that he has an untreated alcohol problem and he has a history of spousal abuse. That will turn a lot of teams off.

lol! I guess the last few years wasn't enough.

He has pretty much been a Player/Assistant Coach for years.

^^^^

Yeah first thing I thought. Player/Coach....If he gets the job, he should sign himself to a playing contract too.... Heck if injuries are an issue he could do 10-day in the middle of the season..

My Bleacher Report App just sent me a notification saying the Nets offered J-Kidd a 3 year deal.

Are you going to justify this by saying he's been a player/coach his whole career? Shaw has been an assistant since 2004 and he played a similar mentor role at the end of his career. That's a ridiculous statement.

I think popular opinion would put Popovich and Thibodeau as the top coaches in the league. They both paid their dues by grinding their way up the assistant ladder. Kidd may be able to get players to listen to him better than most because he literally just played with all of them but that doesn't mean he knows how to implement schemes, drawing up x's/o's, and dealing with the media from a coach's perspective. These guys spend their free time in a film room. I don't see Kidd doing that, at least not yet.

The only two successful coaches in the NBA who made the leap from player to coach quickly are Doc and I guess Mark Jackson. Doc waited 3 years to coach and it still took him 10 years and a ridiculous roster to figure it all out. I'm skeptical on Mark Jackson because I watched him make quite a few mistakes in the playoffs but I give him credit for getting everyone to buy into his message. He waited 5-6 years before he tried to get into coaching.

You might be right, Kidd could turn into a great coach, but saying he has more coaching experience than Shaw is just ridiculous.

You need someone who is somewhat intelligent to coach a pro team. He had to try 3 times to get the minimum 700 requirement on the SATs to get into cal. As a head coach, You also need to be the spokesperson for the team and after listening to all his interviews over the years, he certainly doesn't sound like someone fit for that role.

The Nets are backed into a corner because of Deron. He's an uncoachable baby and they're stuck with him. I wouldn't want to be a coach there because eventually he'll get you fired but I'm sure Prokorhov will make it worth it to whoever takes the job.

Bingo... If Sloan can't coach Deron, than I doubt 99% of other coaches out there cant. Pop or Phil maybe, but bringing in a player that they all just got done playing against a few months ago seems like a bad move to me. I don't think they will have respect for him, especially Deron.

Pretty bold move by the Nets if it indeed comes true!

I love Kidd and wanted him as an assistant coach, but him as a head coach scares me a bit. Hopefully he brings a good supporting cast with him.
