Default Is Tim Duncan greater than Shaq?

Always thought Shaq was better but if Duncan wins another ring would things change?

What do ya guys think?

For one season I would take Shaq, but clearly Timmy is the one you want to build a sustainable franchise around

If I was picking a squad and both were in their primes, it's Shaq. Not even close really

Shaqs career wasnt as long tho. Tim Duncan is winning a championship at 37... Shaq in his prime was arguably the most dominant center ever

Duncan Is one of the all time greatest players EVER...

But SHAQ IS the most dominant big man of all time! He was a damn beast and unstoppable in his prime

1. They played different position
2. Duncan Shaq is like Rusell Chamberlain debate
3. Duncan is a better defensive player the Shaq
4. Offensively Shaq is better obviously
5. One season Shaq, but it is CLOSE
6. Over career Duncan ( like Karl Malone over Barkley , read : longevity )

It was easy for Shaq to dominate, the centers in the league during his prime were atrocious. Shaq was an average player at everything except post offense and he wouldn't even be good at that if he didn't outweigh all other big men by 75 pounds.

It's always been a tie between Shaq and A-Rod for the most overrated sports superstar of all time. Shaq is by far the least versatile NBA superstar I have ever seen play. He would have never put up the insane offensive numbers if the league didn't go away from having true big men.

Duncan without question. Plus he can make a shot further than 3 feet from the basket

I like Duncan but would pick Shaq. For short term he just bulldozes over everyone.

Skillwise yes. If I was as big as Shaq I'd better hope to be the best big man in the league. But Tim Duncan is different and as moves and skills, something Shaq lacked.

Yes! The word 'greater' instead of 'better in their prime' makes it an easy choice for me!

Yes. Overall career Tim is better.

Tim once he wins his fifth. Will solidify his place as the best power forward of all time.
Arguably the best of his era. But I will argue that Kobe is better than Duncan.

Anyhow, Shaq is more dominant in the paint. But has lots of flaws .
Duncan is fundamentally sounded in the post, high post, pick and roll, pick and pop,
Offensively duncan has the edge.
Defensively Shaq has the advantage.
Duncan career vs shaq carrer = Duncan gets the nod.

Good question and ill say no.

Shaq had flat out dominant seasons from 93-03. He also played 19 seasons and that's a ton for a man his size.

Duncan has been much better in his mid thirty years than Shaq was though. Duncan though, as great as he is, never DOMINATED the NBA for a decade straight.

I assume you're being a little sarcastic?

Isn't the 90s known as the era of great big men?

Hakeem, Drob, Ewing, Zo, Mutombo - that's 6 (with Shaq) great centers. How many top quality centers are there around now?

Duncan has been a fantastic player his whole career, but Shaq was dominant and scary. Totally different, but Shaq still beats Timmy IMO.

For me Shaq's prime was 99-00 until 2002-03 (maybe 98-99). That is when most people say that those years he was the most dominating and unstoppable player ever. Ewing, Hakeem and even Robinson (who's six years older than Shaq) were past their primes. Zo has serious health issues after 99-00 season with a serious decline in production. Mutombo is a good defensive center, but Shaq was just too big for Mutombo and in the Finals you can see Shaq use his size to destroy Mutombo.

Shaq never really had to develop at anything like having a mid range game or becoming a better passer. Shaq could play defense when he was motivated to, problem was he was lazy and didn't really need to. Shaq and Zo were really the last two true centers that were drafted (Howand in 04 if you really think about it) and the reason Shaq was able to put up insane numbers in his prime years was because he had no real competition.

Shaq is still a first ballot HOF'er and had 4 championships and an MVP and he deserves them, but he's not the 7th or 8th best player of all time like most people say he is. Every list I see has him over Olajuwon, and to me that's crazy. I actually thin his 94-95 season in Orlando was his best season.

If both were 20 yrs old coming into the league and I had the first pick, knowing the career each of them were going to have, I would draft Duncan. Maybe because I dont consider shaq a "skills" player.

Wow Both great players but I would have to give the Nod toward Duncan, you cant argue with results and Duncan is still getting results at 37.

Id take Duncan because he wanted his nickname to be Merlin. Sadly, this did not come to pass.
