Default Mailday...collection achievement, milestone...you name it.

Hi!

I am really really pumped right now - that's for sure. Finally, after 7 1/2 years I finally completed a truly hard to come by masterset.

05-06 Topps Style 52 Gold Refractor set 1-165 limited /25.

The last card I needed was this Manu Ginobili. This card seemed to be bewitched or better...protected by devil himself.
I saw this card popping up on ebay or any boards for like only 4-5 times and missed out on all but the last one.

I know I overpaid on this one. I paid over $50 more than on any other card from the set including Lebron, Kobe, CP3 and Mickey Mantle. But finally I can present the whole thing to you:

First the last piece of that puzzle:

This is the complete 165-card set:
05-06 Topps Style 52 Gold Refractor Set /25

...with some highlights being:

Jersey numbered 21/25:

I like it when it's shiny, gold and has that Refractor-style and I still can't believe it.
They simply look awesome all together.

LMK what you think.
Cheers, Holger

Amazing set!

If you showed those off via flickr instead of photobucket it would be such a better presentation. I still don't get why people are cool with the photobucket update that has only half of your cards showing whenever you try to show them off.

Wow man congrats. I know how it is going for a set for years and I'm very happy for you. Congrats!

Now on to the set itself. I gotta admit, that is one of the nicest refractor sets I have seen. It has a gold finish like none other. I really liked those cards from when they first came out. The 1/1 versions of these are sick as well.. You need to take photos to show the real shine of those cards

A big "TRUE" on what you said on that photobucket thing. I can't stand the new design and features but it seems I am too lazy to upload them anywhere lol.

Thanks man! Year, photos should have shown the real refractor shine. I know I have one photo somewhere. Will check for it but they still look so amazing even being just scanned.

@bigcwd2000:
Year thanks man! I literally was sweating blood and tears to get this last one card in. Someday you just start to doubt you will ever get that set complete when you are down to 4-5 missing and none of these pops up anywhere for lie over 2 years...Hard times^^

I honestly think this is one of the nicest Parallel sets ever made - I think this is the only REFRACTOR Basketball set w/ a "topps heritage" feel, correct?

I don't even have any of the Gold REF's, but just from having the Regular refractor version and looking at the pictures of the Golds, I can just tell how awesome-looking they would be in person

Thanks guys for the kind words!

@MavsRChamps:
Well, I know of some 96-97 Topps Refractors with a heritage appeal coming with Reprints of the 80s Top RCs. I think in 08-09 as well as they reproduced the look of 57-58.

But you are correct, one of the (if not the) best looking sets imo. I wouldn't have started it otherwise, right?

Again, everything counted in back then when I started it. Heritage look, gold, shiny, low numbered and rare as hell. I opened a case back then and only found a single Gold Refractor in it. Ok, I opened some single boxes where I was way way over odds with 4 Golds in 5 boxes but once you are down to like 3/4 into the set it's getting really hard finding the missing ones.

Amazing stuff man, great dedication to putting the set together! I can only imagine...I did a 101 card set /25 (one was /3 and one /10) took only about a year. I had one card like your manu that I thought i would never get! Set was 11/12 certified gold patch set and I started to think it didn't exist...but I finally found it on photobucket and the owner happened to be a member here (ralphfr? Or raphfr something...) it was the rondo/10 and he's a rondo super collector from France...so he wasn't trying to sell. I had to overpay big time but it's worth it man...you already put so much time and effort into it that at that point what's $100 to FINISH! I bet it feels amazing to finally have it done, congrats again man.

Great effort Holger! I used to own the 1/25 of KG from this set, prayed I'd find the #21/25 but never have. These cards remind me a bit of the Topps contemporary collection gold parallels from 03-04, except they do have that heritage feel as mentioned above.
Amazing effort getting them all!

Thanks guys!
@Knicker_Please:
Year, I saw that beauty of a set as well. You just finished it a few weeks ago right? What a nice set as well. (Again, I like it when it's gold lol). Also thought about putting the regular 11-12 Certified golds together put stayed away from it knowing how much work it is.

And yes, the $120 that the Manu did cost is nothing compared to the relief you get once it is done.

Thanks again guys, Holger
