Default ebay - accept us postal money order?

I'm brand new to selling on ebay. Someone bidding on one of my cards is asking if I'll accept a US postal money order. So what does that mean, if they will they send me the money order in the mail, then I cash it, then I ship them the card? So that means they don't have a paypal account?

Is this something I should accept? There are 13 people watching the card, and I'm pretty sure it'll sell either way, but I just need to know more about this.

Does accepting a money order outside of Ebay's paypal break the rules of Ebay?

Thanks.

They can ask but you can't require or request it.

They send a USPS mail order, you cash it, ship out their cards. A lot of guys dont like paypal and/or trust it. Bonus for you is that your not loosing paypal fees and your not nearly at risk as you were if they paid with payp0al.

That way they cant rip you off by filing a paypal claim against you even though they got the card.

to sum up:

pros (of accepting money order):
*don't have to pay paypal fees
*buyer can't file a paypal dispute (which usually sides with the buyer)

cons
*wait time of getting the money order in the mail (could add a week or more)
*possibility of fraud/money order bounces. Unless you can officially verify the funds are good (depends on the money order type), you should wait for it to clear like any other check.

re: the last point, if it's a postal money order, try to cash at the post office for free instead of depositing at a financial institution.

Good luck

Thanks for the advice.

I did respond and said I'd accept a US postal money order only, and mentioned I will only ship out the card once I get the postal money order and cash it successfully, so there will be a delay. She's got good feedback and well over 200 purchases of some nice cards.

This selling your cards on Ebay thing brings a whole new dimension to collecting. I'm digging it so far. Having this forum helps immensely, not sure I could do without it.

Postal Money orders are really the only secure money orders -- you can cash them at a bank, or at the post office -- which is pretty nice!

I prefer the post office as they can automatically check it against the money order. I bring the package with me and presuming its cashed, that box/order goes out that day.

Okay, so I have another question:

In order to receive US Postal Money Orders, do I need to uncheck the option "Block bids from buyers who might make transactions more difficult or expensive."? (this forces someone to have a paypal account in order to bid on the card?)

Or can the bidder still have a paypal account, make a bid, and then not use paypal to pay for it, and the transaction will still go through?

Nope, just leave it the way it is and have him message you after the auction has ended for your address.
