I'm rarely at a loss for words but..... wow.

Not only would this guarantee Lebron NEVER goes back to the Cavs, but it handcuffs their future and would probably cost them Wiggins / Thompson / Waiters from re signing in the future. Makes absolutely no sense at all.

Love it. Love everything about it.

How does it make no sense other then not signing LeBron this year? The Cavs have the cap space and it hardly stops them from making moves in 24 months if LeBron wants to come back.

Bringing Waiters + Wiggins + Thompson into the mix is just ridiculous. Wiggins hasn't even signed his rookie deal yet. That's just dumb. These guys have Bird Rights when the time comes.

Hayward is an absolute perfect match in the Blatt offense.

WTF is going on......please LBJ bc I'm such a big fan of you......don't go back to the doomed Cavaliers......Gordon Hayward getting a max is equivalent to the Amare deal for the knicks......talk about MAKING DESPERATE MOVES!!!

Only way I see this as a positive is they get kanter or favors with hayward and move varajeo and waiters.

A max deal is 5 years in most circumstances (and what I am assuming here)... 5 years down the road they won't have enough cap space or money to sign any of those guys to $10 mill+ contracts if they do this.

They don't need cap space for their own players. They need Gilbert to pay luxury tax.

Which he does every year without hesitation.

You're worrying about Wiggins in 2019 already? Relax.

They wouldn't need cap space to sign any of them. Bird Rights.

1) I'm not a cavs fan in any way lol... I'm just not understanding this lunacy

2) The cavs are tax payers? That would be news to me.. what is their current cap number?

I understand that.. but doing so would mean they have to convince people to accept minimum deals to fill the roster. They aren't exactly the Lakers, Heat, Knicks, or even the Nets... how would they convince players to do that?

Hayward's a good player and you have to overpay to pry away RFAs. Not sure a max is that bad. He's probably worth slightly less than max, but again, RFA.

I know on the surface this doesn't make sense.... but it does.

Hayward is the PERFECT wing to put next to Irving and Wiggins. He defends, can handle and distribute and will be killer defensively along with Wiggins.... Blatt will love him. Everybody talks about how bad Hayward was last year, but he's clearly not a #1 option and he still put up 16 5 and 5.

The craziest part of this story is this.... The Jazz are going to match this offer. You can book it. THEY WILL MATCH THIS OFFER!!!!!!!

Isn't it 4 years if it's not your own player? 4 years 15M per?

The Cavs are about to handicap the Jazz. Way to go Cavs!

Gordon is a "solid" player but by no mean is a max contract. I mean look at how the jazz did last year. He probably had crazy stats last year because there was no one else on the jazz. So his stats will probably never reach what it was last year.

Correct. Only Utah could offer the 5th year. The max Cleveland could offer is 4 for 63.

What?

Who do they have to convince?

This isn't anything Miami or a team like that who only had rights to 1 of their guys on the roster to use Bird Rights on.

The Cavs will have the rights to all these players for the next 4 years.

They don't need to accept guys to take the minimum if they keep their own guys.

Agree with everything here.

Including the fact that Utah will match.

I'd be surprised if Utah doesn't match. RFA deals suck. If Cleveland makes the offer they have to wait 3 days for Utah to decide if they're going to match. The cap space they'd use for that deal is tied up for those 3 days.

How many guys in the NBA put up 16 5 and 5 last year? Every team can pay 2 or 3 max players at an average of $16m a year... I think Hayward can be a really good third option or an average second option.... in today's NBA, unfortunately that's a $15m-$16m /year player.

If this happens - I'd have to imagine they at least entertain the idea of trading Waiters and/or Thompson.

You move Wiggins to the 2 spot and play Hayward at the 3

I'd think they'd potentially keep Waiters as the "Manu 6th man" and move Thompson in the hopes that Bennett can take over the 4 spot in a rotation with Zeller and Varejao.

Who knows though.

Interesting and aggressive.

Why not offer it to Chandler Parsons? Is Gordon better than Parsons?

Haven't seen him play as much but I like Parsons a lot.

I'll answer that for you - the answer is 7 guys - lets name them

LeBron
Durant
Westbrook
MCW
Love
Parsons (who everyone loves compared to Hayward apparently - both are good - Hayward would fit better with David Blatt)
Hayward

Those are the 7 that did 16 + 5 + 4

I bet that's their next move.

If I was the GM of Cleveland or any other team with cap space I'd be going after Parsons hard. Houston might not match it right now. They won't be able to bring Melo in if they do match and Melo probably wont make his decision for a few days or weeks..
