Smile Upper Deck Replacement Mailday :)

So I had a redemption that I asked to be replaced:

2009 UD Icons Chris Davis Rookie Auto #/50 (baseball)

Gave Upper Deck a list and was very happy with what they sent me...

Great looking card...it's a buyback auto, came with a COA and holographic tracing number. So the card was originally a base card from 08-09 Exquisite basketball, but this buyback auto is from 09-10 Exquisite Basketball hand numbered to 25

Great replacement... but how was UD able to buy back 25 of this card if only 50 were made? Buying half of the production run of a specific card is very difficult unless they were buying these back immediately upon releasing the original product. Just seems strange.

I doubt all 25 auto buybacks were all on 08-09 exquisite base cards...sometimes they'll number 25 buyback autos, but the cards they are all on are different...but the set for the new release total 25
