Default Lebron Signs Deal For...

2 years, 42 mil with option to opt out after 1 year.

Curious in my opinion, but I'm not entirely informed on the process lol.

Opinions?

I like it. It really is a stab at Cleveland saying hey, if you guys can't make this work, I'm out. And it's a promise to Lebron by CLeveland signing it saying that they are going to make it work.

Funny how all the talking heads on ESPN yesterday were saying he was going to sign his first max contact

That's not it at all. It's so that he can sign another max deal when the nba signs a new TV deal and the cap is expected to increase to $80+ million. It also gives the cavs flexibility in 2016 to bring in more players, because that free agency class is going to be bonkers.

Lebron is committed to Cleveland for the long-term.

So LeBron wants us all to be on pins and needles again in two years? LeBron...is it ever NOT all about you?

Pretty disrespectful to "home" if you ask me....

@WindhorstESPN: LeBron is expecting the salary cap to jump massively in 2016, James aims to re-sign at that time. Fully committed to Cavs long term.

He's not leaving again. He will resign in 16/17 for max money.

Does this mean Bron opts out to join Knicks in 2016 along with Durant?

Ok I'll mark it down. Say, let's mark it down for $500 that LeBron will be a Cleveland Cavalier in 3 years, cool?

This might be the dumbest comment ever. He signed it b/c he'll resign in 2016-2017 when the new TV deal is done and max contracts are worth a hell of a lot more.

I heard the short term deal is only cause of new CBA coming up, When that is settled he will get the max after the new CBA is worked out, Whether it's done before the work stoppage or after, He will sign a max.

Yeah, I'm not sure what everyone is freaking out about, this is definitely the reason. He didn't want to get locked into a long-term max deal because he knows he'll be able to get more after the new CBA.

Smart move with the Cap situation in 2016. Not really a big deal.

At this point, the only way Lebron plays for another team other than Cleveland is if he's like 40 and can't stop playing like Jordan but the Cavs just need to move on.

This is nothing but just protecting himself against the labor and cap situations in upcoming years.

This is purely about Lebron trying to get maximum money.

Today: Signs 2 year contract, with year 2 as player option
2015: declines player option; signs another "1+1" contract, because the max on next year's increased cap is higher than his scheduled pay
July 2016: After the TV deal, signs a 5 year max, narrowly avoiding the age 36 rule
December 2016: Union notifies owners they're opting to terminate CBA (right of owners and players), effective July 2017
July 2017: Players-Owners resolve issue, agree to new CBA, with players getting back revenue share they gave up in last CBA. Owners agree to new rule that bumps up specified max contracts (Lebron being one)
July 2020/21: signs 4 year extension with cleveland

I think this season would have to be an unmitigated disaster for him to opt out and go somewhere else. I'm talking 20 or less wins and being one of the worst teams in the league. The amount of backlash and hate he would get for leaving Cleveland again after this letter would be almost insurmountable. The opt-out is something I think most stars are now using to protect their career in case of situations like I described above.

I'm with Sikkcaden, if some people really read this is as he is gone again after 1-2 years, put your money where your mouth is. Lot of money to be made out there if you really do believe 100% something is going to happen.

He would leave if the owner says something racist. He is so into Cavs. That is so good move for Lebron. Most players would sign for long term just to lock the money. No one is this crazy like Lebron to play for next one.

If I'm a Cavs fan who wants to see a championship, I would be happy to have Lebron on a year-to-year deal. It allows him to exert maximum pressure on ownership to do everything in their power to build the best roster. So if Dan Gilbert wants to get cute about saving a few million in salary, Lebron can force the issue with the threat of leaving.

If I were a player and I had that kind of power to exert, I absolutely would.
