Default National Treasures box contents worth $56

I am a collector from the UK. Annoyingly, it can be expensive to import cards from the USA. Meanwhile, there are barely any collectors/sellers in the UK.

Therefore, I was surprised and delighted when I saw someone selling the contents of a box of National Treasures on eBay.co.uk (the UK version of eBay). I contacted the seller and he said he paid $430 for the cards but had to pay customs tax of nearly $200 and postage of $25 to get the cards into the UK. So, in other words, he paid $655 for the box.

As if that wasn't bad enough, the poor guy busted the worst box of NT imaginable!

Well anyway, he sold all 12 cards for a total of $56 (he made a big mistake not listing the cards on eBay.com where the cards would have reached a wider audience). Of course, I was the lucky recipient of his best cards, which I will post below along with the prices I paid for each of them (sorry the scans are sideways)...

Brandon Jennings jersey auto #/49 ($20.80)

Terrence Williams jersey auto #/49 ($6.50)

James Harden jersey auto #/20 ($3.40)

Andre Iguodala jersey auto #/49 ($1.80)

DeMar DeRozan jersey #/25 ($1.50)

Brandon Roy jersey #/49 ($1.80)

The other cards were a Jason Kidd jersey (#/10, which I missed out on), a James Johnson jersey (which nobody bid for) and four base cards.

You should be able to just use your eBay.com login on the eBay.co.uk website.

(Damn, wish I hadn't mentioned it now!)

But don't get your hopes up - usually the best cards you will find are 1995-96 collector's choice base cards. Hence my amazement when someone listed the National Treasures cards!

Don't worry, I'm not huge in Basketball - so no competition there. Good pick up though.

Bengals4life, I will charge $3.50 for shipping to the USA. It usually takes about 1 week for delivery. Feel free to send me an offer for the card.

I imagine that he forgot to ask or wasn't aware of customs tax, and therefore got stung badly.

However, some sellers refuse to write a lower amount on the customs form. For example, my girlfriend bought me a box of Bowman 48 for Christmas from Dave and Adam's cards, and she had to pay $25 postage and then about $30 customs on top of that (which she wasn't prepared for). I contacted Dave and Adam's cards and they refuse to write a lower amount on the customs form.

Hence it's a nightmare buying boxes if you live in the UK!

The cards arrived in the post today. The six cards including insured postage came to $47. Here's a photo I took of the cards. I'm really happy with them!

Thanks man. The feedback in this thread has really helped reinforce in my mind the fact that I got myself a great deal!

Also, the Nets and Raptors are coming to London in March 2011 for the NBA's first ever regular season game in Europe, so it's nice to own a couple of sweet cards of their players (DeRozan and Terrence Williams).

Williams started his NBA career slowly but came on strong in March and April, including 27 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists during a win over my team, the Chicago Bulls. If he can build on that next season, I hope the card's value goes up significantly, but we'll see.

I wouldn't expect a card like that to go up significantly. I would say the Rookie Auto Patch /99 or /25 could go up. Panini way overproduced autos of Rookies in NT and when you can get auto jerseys/patches of the ROY in Panini's best product for $30 it is sad.

Yeah good point, Panini are overproducing a lot of cards.

Still, it won't be hard to make a profit on the $6.50 that I paid for the card. I'll most likely just keep it and hope that Williams has a nice career.
