Default Kobe black label BGS 10 refractor

I may be late to the game on this one, but I had the itch to add a Kobe Chrome refractor to my collection. I searched eBay just a second ago and was awestruck. A black label BGS 10 popped up on my search and the sight of it made my jaw drop... almost as much as the asking price. Other than the centering on the back (I guess they don't look at that), it does look damn near perfect.

I guess my question is; as a Kobe collector, is this THE greatest card of all time?
And before anyone asks, I have zero affiliation with the seller. I'm just kind of astounded that it exists.

I saw that as well and was drooling. Personally, if I was going to spend that kind of premium on a black label the card would have to be perfect in every way. The centering on the back is a bit off but thats just me. It's a damn beautiful card though.

As for greatest card, id put it top five. Id place the PMG Green, Kobe/Jordan & Kobe/Lebron 2003 exquisite dual logoman and Kobe 2003 exquisite base patch auto 1/1 ahead.

It's a tremendous card. I was a bit surprised centering was a 10 given the back, but it does appear to fall within the 60/40 measurements. Unreal. Can't even begin to guess what that's worth.

I collect cards, not labels, so this Kobe collector doesn't see it as the Holy Grail or anything like that.

I consider the 96-97 chrome refractor to be his most iconic card, but I'm bias being a chrome RC refractor collecter and having one myself (BGS 9). Yea, he has plenty of more valuable cards, but that one, as evidenced by this thread, comes up in conversation has being his "Grail" more often then others.

Personally, I found some of the old labels BGS 9.5 have better condition than BGS 10 today.

Of course, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference in ebay scan. I can only tell 10 > 9.5 for online purchase.

Insane card. I wonder if one of those was a PSA 10 crossover

There is nothing aesthetically pleasing about this card, but that is not why we collect, do we? Personally, there are hundreds of Kobe cards I would rather own than this. On the other hand, this card would bread more jealousy, than any other Kobe. And that is the measuring scale in the hobby, am I right?

Looks like the top to bottom centering is a bit off to me...maybe a 9.5 but doesn't look like 10 pristine centering.

Care to elaborate?

The card back would not have received a passing grade in any college level design class due to the two rows of text that overrun the picture. OK, maybe D since it is made up of two lines, but if it was a single line, it would fail for sure. A good designer would have shortened the text to fit the graphics.

The photo on the front is the exact same as the Fleer RC, except the one on the Fleer is from a better angle. The text and white border is boring and the basketball image is lame.

All of these would be fine on a low-end base card, which was Topps. Everything on this card suggest low-end except the technology which was used, but it was already in use with Finest, so the only thing this card has going is the hype. It is the same as calling talentless, over marketed celebrities musicians.

I am no way critical to anyone owning or wanting this card, I myself want to buy into the hype and own a Chrome RC one day. Its significance is undeniable.

Yes, I find it very aesthetically pleasing.
Personally I love the old chrome refractor look from 96-97 to 98-99.
I'm not trying to convince anyone they should feel the same, but to me, yes its a very attractive card that I would want over any other Kobe card I can think of.

It's a bit hard to believe that there are hundreds of other Kobe cards you would rather have than this one...

Not even considering the label, I would think this would be the one card a Kobe collector must own (if they can that is)

That seller is in bed with BGS. Not shocked it got this grade. Back to back black labels too as mentioned above? Smells fishy to me.

My opinion...

Like many of these high end "Holy Grails", this card is over graded. It's a nice BGS 9.5, it is not a flawless black label BGS 10.

Lot of people grading this card based on a scan instead of the x200 jewelers loupe that BGS would use... yeah BGS probably got it wrong.

You don't need a 200x loupe to see that the centering is flawed on the back.

IDK. Cherokee Parks' armpit?

The Chrome is historic. Not a great looking card, but it is an icon. The refactor is so down on my want-list, that it could not hold Bettie White's titties. And yes, its cost has much to do with it.

Jokes aside. I would really like to understand what people dig so much about this card. TheVolta, please convince me.
