First look: 2010-11 Panini Timeless Treasures basketball cards

Panini’s high-end offerings for its sophomore season as the NBA’s exclusive licensee of trading cards tips off with Timeless Treasures, a $100 a pack product that carries the hits and a mix of aesthetics that might appeal to a few types of collectors when it arrives on Dec. 8.

Each five-card pack will include three autographs or memorabilia cards — a minimum of one autograph — and two base cards or parallels numbered to 399 or less.

Each 15-tin case will include at least one of the following card types: autographs of Kobe Bryant, Magic Johnson, Bill Russell, Bill Walton, John Stockton, Larry Bird, Shaquille O’Neal or John Wall as well as Cut Signatures, Logoman cards, Logoman Signatures, Laundry Tag Logoman cards, Laundry Tag Logoman Signatures, Laundry Tag Team Logos and Laundry Tag Team Logo Signatures.

Panini promises more than 300 1/1 cards in the product as well as exclusive autographs of Wesley Johnson and Brandon Jennings.

Looks like they are still using stickers and that sucks. All in all I say it looks better then last years.

last year's release was like the 1st week of May... and now December? only a month and a half after Limited no less, for another 1-pack product, hmm.... guess they're coming up with more juicy stuff for the spring

Not true, 2009-10 Timeless also had GU Jersey and Patches for Mikan and Jabbar... I pulled a 2/5 patch myself!!!

Also, 300 1/1?? - really now?? I assume there are no printing plates... that's a lot of 1/1's without printing plates... I know the base set is 100 cards (so that is 100 1/1 already)... but 200 1/1 on what I assume are GU or Auto GU cards... wow!! Kiss the value of 1/1's goodbye...

Just to add one more thing... how about doing less 1/1 and more on-card autos... manufactured patches, leathers do not count!!!

So last year DIDN'T have them on the same card!!

i dont' see anyone complaining about the amt of 1/1s in triple threads, for example... and last time i checked, there are zero manu patches in TT. the leather is no diff than when UD did sweet shot autos? I am not by any means a huge fan of panini but TT did yield some of the better hits of last year. problem was that for every 1 nice box, there were 4 absurdly awful box. i wish it was more even out...

yes there was a dual gu of mikan and jabbar at the timeless treasures hall of fame gu insert.

design sucks. it looks like a twin panini hall of fame

Many of their products have hundreds of 1/1s. This is nothing new and won't kill the value of 1/1s anymore than it already has...

Thank you for verifying my claim...

and yes, the designed sucked!!

The rookie recruit is manufacutred leather "ball" auto... which does not hold value... and if you look at the pictures...they are doing the manufactured patch as well... so now all Panini products will have Manu Patch autos... snoozzzzzz!!!!

Brad: you are right...prices of 1/1 are already pretty depressed...

The biggest problem I have with the Panini 1/1 is I have no idea what "version" it is... There could be different 1/1 for the same card... (like #tag, team logo tag, logoman tag)... granted that TTT has 6 1/1 for every gu auto (4 white whales, 1 platinum, 1 wood) at least I know what version I am looking at...
With TTT I know I am looking for 6... but with Timeless, I do know how many version there are.. checklist only says 1/1 available...

well

base platinum is 100
rookie recuits platinum is 50

so thats 150 1/1 already

maybe 10 rookie year logomans
10 rookie year logoman auto
10 rookie year laundry tag logoman
10 rookie year laundry tag logoman auto

then lets say in the base set there are
20 players who has a team logo tag
20 players who has a nba logo tag
20 players who has a laundry logo tag

so thats 250 already

probably some 30 championship season logomans, mvp season, logomans etc 1/1s

put in some random 1/1 like weve seen before

there you go 300

just like last year... oh wait it was last MAY. LOL

Super lame that they are using Manufactured Patches in this product. One of the reason I liked T.T. last year was that I didn't have to deal with the extremely generic big white cloth. Bill Walton as a case hit is also pretty disgusting(this coming from a Clippers fan who actually collects a little of the Redhead). Not looking good for my favorite product of last year...

I'd personally rather pay the $350 a box on National Treasures than $100 (or even $75) a tin on Timeless. Just my personal preference though - I though they did a great job with it this year.

lol, thats what I was thinking....Panini may surprise us like they did with the 1st release of TT & NT so don't give up hope on them just yet. I never would have thought that NT would have been a product of the year (yes it gets my vote, so far) so I am excited to see what else they have in store for us...

blowout is the best place to purchase cards. They offer some of the best deals around and are completely honest/reliable
