Essentially if we are going to have 1/3 of the list below $100, then the price point should be lower. Blowout can still make their money and clear out some old inventory by lowering to $150 and removing some of the ~$250 hits.

It's just too painful to lose $100+ which is what 1/3 of the group will experience.

The value per spot is inflated over market value. Like I said previously, I'd shave at least 10% off the top of that # to get a closer estimate of actual market value of many of these 3+ year old boxes.
actually...

for thanksgiving it was about $175 value for $150 spot
for cyber monday promo #1 it was $195 value for $169 spot

so yes, this promo is only $10 more value per slot price instead of $25...

I guess my only comment is that gift cards would have more appeal to me than the pick your own cases, but oh well

They aren't taking a loss.

The boxes they have currently are essentially "sunk costs"

Many of them are being sold for a profit on their website for the prices we calculated into this break.

Others, they paid for them a while ago and have been unable to move them. It would be in there best interest to clear this inventory and get liquidity + warehouse space so they can invest in newer inventory to make higher+quicker profits on.

In the Thanksgiving one...82 of the 275 slots were at half the cost of a slot or lower...so 30%...pretty similar

I was referring to halloween where it was ~ $190 for a 130? 140? Spot.

Blowout Cards 2012 "TRICK or TREAT" Halloween Promotion 2 ! (CLOSED)

Still, it shouldn't be a $ argument, it should be a % argument. Based on EV/spot cost:

Halloween was a 35.714% added value gamble
Thanksgiving was a 16.667% added value gamble
Cyber Monday was a 15.385% added value gamble

This promotion is a 4.5% added value gamble.

See what I mean? Not the same at all...

Also, $200 can get you almost anything you'd want. For me, I collect baseball so I'm happy to get a Triple Threads Box. At $150 that's great. At $200, I can just go buy it and not risk any disappointment. Sure I'm missing out on a Five Star box or one of the awesome case spots, but I also avoid getting a box of 2003-04 Basketball.

I agree, you could just purchase what you want and be happy (or disappointed based on how the break goes, lol), but this promotion is for those of us who love to gamble. Not only that, you at least get something in return. I broke even on the first Cyber Monday promo I entered (Panini Prime Hockey Box) and lost on the second (2011 Bowman Platinum BB Box, but hit a nice AGon/Crawford Dual auto #1/10). I like the "Chance" to hit one of the high end boxes or cases and if I lose out and get stuck with a $75 box, well, that was the gamble. Sure, it'll hurt a little to lose that much, but at least I get a box to crack, and who knows, maybe I'll get a chance to choose my own case! So, I am IN!!

I do agree that I would rather have a $500 Giftcard than the Wii, but I sure wouldn't complain if that was my prize for $199.99!

True, but that wasn't a $100 loss.

How is $100 the same as $75? I'll tell you what, you send me $100, and I'll send you $75 anytime you want.

Apparently math is hard for some. Last time I checked $100 > $75.
