A USA Baseball official confirmed on Wednesday afternoon that Bryce Harper will appear in this year’s commemorative boxed set of baseball cards and provided images of Harper’s cards exclusively to Beckett Media.

The annual fund-raising product is scheduled to arrive on Jan. 12 but other details on the set produced by Upper Deck are few and far between (the company can’t market the product before release because of the athletes’ status as amateurs). A checklist, price and other details have not yet been announced.
“I can confirm that Bryce Harper will be featured in the USA Baseball National Teams Box Set on both game-used equipment and autograph cards,” said David Perkins, USA Baseball’s Director of Marketing and Licensing.
Harper, a 17-year-old who hit .626 with 14 home runs and 55 RBIs in high school this past season, appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated last summer and was tabbed “Baseball’s chosen one ” and “the most exciting prodigy since LeBron.”
Harper received his GED and enrolled at the College of Southern Nevada in June with an eye on being selected in the 2010 MLB Draft where he’s expected to be taken with the first pick by the Washington Nationals.
Harper’s other baseball cards — from last year’s USA Baseball set and Topps’ Aflac All-American Game promo cards — have been some of the hottest in the hobby in the last year.

NEW INFO:

While the USA Baseball boxed set arrives on Tuesday, little has been revealed about what will be inside the annual fund-raising product — other than the confirmed inclusion of a few Bryce Harper cards — until now.
The standard set will include the National Team, the 18U National Team and the 16U National Team, while each set will include seven autographs per box — five of those being on-card autographs. Each set will include one inscriptions card as well as a Q&A, Big Signatures, Starting Lineup or team roster card.

As with all Upper Deck products, a suggested retail price was not announced.
Each set also will include three game-used jersey cards — one patch or patch autograph per box — while there also will be Starting Lineup Autograph cards as in recent years as well as Team Roster Autograph cards that have the entire roster’s signatures.
Also back will be 1-of-1 Flag Patch cards, while all memorabilia cards have been upgraded to either be a triple jersey or patch.
The autographs will again be found with blue-, red- and green-ink variations.

New Info Plus Checklist

Upper Deck released the checklist for its 2010 USA Baseball set and one thing’s for certain — fears that the set might not include some of the biggest names possible on the autograph checklist couldn’t be more wrong.
Bryce Harper alone signed more than 1,150 autographs for inclusion in the baseball organization’s fund-raiser box sets that will arrive next week. (The release has been delayed until Jan. 18, after previously being set for Jan. 12.)
Until just this week, Upper Deck had not released any images or product information for marketing citing the athletes’ status as amateurs.

Upper Deck Teams with USA Baseball

to Launch Limited 2009 USA Baseball Box Set

Sought-after collection releases this week; only 6,500 sets produced!

Carlsbad, CA (January 14, 2010) – As all seasoned baseball card collectors know, if they hope to get their hands on cards of the newest baseball diamond prospects, they need to look no further than USA Baseball’s annual box set. Upper Deck has once again partnered with USA Baseball to produce one of the year’s most sought-after releases. The box set includes outstanding content from the 2009 National Team, the 18U National Team and the 16U National Team. The much-anticipated box set is scheduled to hit store shelves this week.

Every 70-card set includes seven total autographs in every box, including five on-card, hard-signed autographs. Collectors will also discover three game-used jersey cards in each box, including rare, autographed game-used patch cards in many instances.
