2010/11 Panini Elite Black Box Basketball

Panini Peek: 2010-11 Elite Black Box The Official Panini America Blog

The newest NBA release from the folks at Panini America promises to create a high bar for expectations at the mere mention of a name that needs no introduction among hardcore collectors: 2010-11 Elite Black Box Basketball.
It’s a name rich with high-end connotations of super-premium content for a product filled with it.
“We realize that by naming this product ‘Black Box’ we’re setting collector expectations really high as that name carries the biggest of big-ticket connotations with collectors,” says Panini America NBA Brand Manager David Porter. “But based on the incredible content that we’ve injected into Black Box, I’m certain this is a product that will not just meet those expectations, but surpass them. From five-autograph Champions cards to the first ever Panini America basketball booklet cards to the hoops introduction of the popular Crusade insert, this is a truly special debut. We spent a great deal of time developing Black Box and we’re really excited about it.”
Due out August 31, every eight-card pack of Black Box will deliver three autographed cards, two memorabilia cards and two inserts. All autograph and memorabilia cards will be numbered to 149 or less and every insert in the product will be numbered to 99 or less.
Additional highlights:
  • Booklet Cards numbered to 25 or less
  • Champions five-autograph cards featuring the 1969 Boston Celtics and 1980s Los Angeles Lakers teams numbered to 10
  • A 10-card Thunderstruck insert (honoring the Oklahoma City Thunder’s biggest superstar) numbered to 10 and signed on-card
  • Elite Series Signatures featuring trapped autographs of the NBA’s finest players, numbered to 49 or less
  • The history-making hoops debut of the popular Crusade insert, with on-card autograph, memorabilia and autographed memorabilia versions numbered to 149 or less
  • The Crusade, Private Signings, Thunderstruck, Black & Blue, Flag Patches and USA Basketball Patches inserts will be completely signed on-card
“We understand that the content has to be there — and it will be,” Porter notes. “There is game-worn memorabilia in this set from the greatest legends of all time. There are triple autograph cards from the original Dream Team. There’s a Thunderstruck autographed insert in which every card is signed on-card. But of all the great content in here, I’m most excited about the Booklet Cards and the designs. They’re truly spectacular. This is definitely high-end and it absolutely lives up to the Black Box name.”

Panini realized that UD Black is still very popular and hot product. I'm glad somebody came to their senses and decided to roll out Panini's Black version.

This stuff looks sick. I can't freaking wait.

Beautiful looking stuff. Sure the price tag will be high though.

Panini has some cool concepts here. I have to laugh though... the little griffin guys look like they are about to attack Larry Bird while shooting a jumper

My guess is $200 a box price point.

Why does Panini keep releasing 2010-11 basketball products when they have failed with many of them? This set boasts manufactured logoman cards and people are excited? This will be yet another product from Panini that offers 1-2 case hits per 10 boxes with every other box being full of garbage. Sure people who got the Kobe dual auto box in Gold Standard come on here and praise Panini. The other 9 who bought boxes from the case arent are they? This product will be overpriced junk produced at a terrible time for basketball product. Keep in mind the product will have the typical 1 month Panini release delay as well. Prepare to get smashed on this product just like the others. Im shocked they keep lining the buyers up for slaughter like this. Im guessing Panini sits back and laughs at how easy it is to herd in the suckers to buy these overpriced products. Or maybe they think if they produce 25 products a year MAYBE 1 will be decent?

The Newest On-Card Arrivals for Elite Black Box Basketball, Dominion Hockey & More

by Tracy Hackler

From the pristine extravagance of 2010-11 Dominion Hockey and 2010-11 Elite Black Box Basketball to the old-school brilliance of the 2000 Certified Certified Gold Team inserts, the Panini America acquisitions team has been privy to some absolutely jaw-dropping on-card autograph arrivals in recent days.

As much as I’d like to wax poetic prose all over the images below, the fact is that my words likely won’t do them justice. But if the saying ”a picture’s worth a thousand words” really is true, then we’d love to hear the 21,000 or so words you have for them.

You obviously know where the Dominion and Elite Black Box cards are headed. Stay tuned to find out more details on where the football cards will end up.

Thursday’s New Batch of On-Card Arrivals for 2010-11 Elite Black Box Basketball

by Tracy Hackler

Building a brand new trading card product from the ground up is a daunting task. Doing so in a condensed timeframe only compounds the complexities. But judging by the frenetic pace at which the on-card autographs for 2010-11 Elite Black Box Basketball are being returned, this new launch is in good hands with the Panini America Product Development and Acquisitions teams.

Yesterday we showed you some of the first Elite Black Box autographs to arrive back at Panini America HQ. Today, we received six more gems that are on beautiful display below.

The 10 Kevin Durant Cards Guaranteed to Leave You Feeling . . . Thunderstruck

by Tracy Hackler

Denotatively speaking, the word “thunderstruck” means to be astonished or dumbfounded.

It’s that jaw-dropping feeling you got when you first heard, for example, that NBA superstar Kevin Durant dropped 66 points in a game at Harlem’s historic Rucker Park earlier this summer. Or when you watched him lead the NBA in scoring — twice. Or when you watched him score 39 points against Memphis in Game 7 of the Western Conference Semifinals in May.

It’s also the feeling you’ll get in just a few seconds when you see, for the first time, each of the 10 cards in the special Thunderstruck set slated for inclusion in Panini America’s September release of 2010-11 Elite Black Box Basketball.

The unique trading-card tribute to Durant, one of four Panini-exclusive spokesmen alongside Kobe Bryant, Blake Griffin and John Wall, is sure to score big — like the man himself — with fans who never tire of his majestic on-court feats. Each of the 10 cards in Thunderstruck features a bold, beautiful signature — unmistakable evidence that Durant is just as brilliant with a paint pen as he is in the paint — and is limited to just 10 copies.

For those of you prepared to be thunderstruck by Durant one more time, here’s the can’t-miss gallery:

Hits Keep Coming: More On-Card Deliveries Arrive for 2010-11 Elite Black Box Basketball

by Tracy Hackler

Larry Bird
. Kobe Bryant. Blake Griffin. Derrick Rose. And thatís just the list of hoops headliners whose autographed cards have arrived at Panini America headquarters in the last two days.

Itís enough to make even collectingís most hardened observers get weak in the knees (I know, Iíve seen it). Itís also two more days worth of positive signs ó pun intended Ė for the inaugural Elite Black Box Basketball, due out in September.

Over the course of the last few weeks weíve done our best to keep you up to date on most of the new arrivals for Elite Black Box. But todayís gallery of Black & Blue Signatures and Crusade autographs is truly something to behold. No need to bore you with more expository introduction. Letís get to the provocative images.

The Panini QC Gallery: 34 Must-See Images from 2010-11 Elite Black Box Basketball

September 7, 2011

by Tracy Hackler

All this well-earned, high-end hullabaloo surrounding the September 14 release of 2010-11 Dominion Hockey has shifted many hobby eyes away from the fact that Panini America has another super-premium product primed for release next week: 2010-11 Elite Black Box Basketball.

Indeed, the Panini America printing facility is a hotbed of activity this week with both products packing out simultaneously.

The good news, of course, is that packout is always closely followed by the vaunted Quality Control gallery. I was met earlier today by a spirited Panini America basketball team of David Porter and Keith Hower that was gawking over the results of Elite Black Boxís first QC case.

When they gawk, thereís usually a pretty good reason. In this case, there were 34 good reasons ó and you can see them all in the gallery that follows.
