Default copper in pennies?

not a coin guy at all

i work at a studio and im responsible for the register, everyday we have tons of pennies come in and out of the store i look through em sometimes and see all different years, granted theyre only pennies but i work 300+ days a year so even if i take a couple a day itll eventually add up.

anyway which pennies are worth anything and which arent?

I think it's cooper pennies before 1982, but since we can't legally melt down our coins yet(not sure about outside usa) they are still worth a cent.

1981 and before are 95% copper, 1982 are both copper and zinc, you have to weight these out to deterimne which one they are. 3.1g=copper, 2.5g =zinc

Say that to the guy who paid me $7,000 for $4,000 face value in pennies last month. And we here in the US we can legally melt canadian pennies( I get $60-70 per $25 box), but you can only bring $5 of US pennies across the border at a time.

Also back in 2006, $100 bags were selling for $260 on ebay, we will be back there(if not alot higher), once the melt ban is lifted again.

the 1964 nickels are only worth 5 cents, look for 1942-1945(they will have a P, D, S on the back, above of the tower). they are war nckels and are 35% silver.
Good find on the dimes, they are 90% silver.

The Half dollar is worth 50 cents(unless it was a silver proof, very unlikely though, I found one after searching over 5,000 boxes)

Yeah can get $25 boxes at banks(they probably would perfer you to get the full box, instead of trying to hand you 20 rolls).
I was doing a steady $150 a week, and some weeks I would get up to $400 in pennies.

so if u spend some time looking through (usually after work i have nothing better to do) then its pretty much free money huh?

are you able to return the unused pennies to your bank easily? i think my bank would get pissed if i walk in with 20 bucks in pennies. then again they have no choice they gotta take them right?

You want to have multiple bank accts(they are free), get pennies from 1, and dump at 1 or more banks. Don't dump your returns back at the same bank that gave you the box, or you will be cutoff after a few weeks.

ur a genius

I have 3-4 unproductive hours a day for video games, I can replace a couple of those hours a day in my home doing this? im down, its kinda fun too honestly, obviously not going to become rich doing it but its a hobby that actually makes money? im into it!

thanks twoten for the advice, much appreciated my man. Monday im heading over to my bank and asking for a $25 box, by the end of the week when I sort through it ill open an account somewhere else, which is funny because I got something in mail from capital one saying if I open an account I get 50 bucks for free after 45 days, and ill just dump the 25-50 in pennies there, awesome!

That actually was another one I did. Made less on that one. But made a great connection for selling even more.

How much time and expense did it take you to accumulate $4,000 worth of pennies?

If the economy ever comes roaring back I believe that Copper could hit all time highs because it's recent fall off was far less than your commodity metals..
