Default 50th Anniversary JFK Half Dollar Set

I thought I heard rumors of a three coin set with a reverse proof coin or something, but all I see on the US Mint's Product Release Schedule is this:

50th Anniversary Kennedy Half-Dollar Uncirculated Coin Set - $9.95

If they're planning on a "surprise" release they better not keep the mintage too low because a bunch of people will miss out.

They are going to take this release to the bank. They'll be selling any type of strike and any type of metal they can do with this. It will sell......and it will sell out quickly.

Looks like they just added the release date for the gold proof coin, but no mintage or pricing detail:

50th Anniversary Kennedy Half-Dollar Gold Proof Coin – August 5, 2014

Let's hope they control the ordering better than the baseball coins. Dealers at the Baltimore show were getting in and out of line, some buying 10-20x their allotted amount. Doesn't seem like much but take 50-100 coins multiplied by dozens of dealers, that's a big cut into a 40k mintage...

It's why I don't go to major shows. I prefer the small, local ones that I can actually talk to people who don't judge me. "Oh you can't drop $100k with me? I have no time for you". But at the small ones, it's so much fun to chat with old timers and the new guys to the hobby. So much to learn and they are (#$%^ about it.

Last big show I went to was CNS in Columbus a few years ago.

Is there going to be a 90% silver content set? If they are making one I'm putting two away, one for each kiddo.

Edit: Looks like they have it scheduled for release but it isn't available to order yet.

For those who forgot (or weren't aware), the JFK proof gold coin goes on sale this Tuesday, August 5th at 12:00pm EST.

Price is $1240.

Assuming that's for a half-ounce coin, sounds pretty steep, but I imagine the buying window or mintage will probably be limited.

Add the uniqueness of the coin, those who can afford it should probably pick one up.

Turns out it's 3/4 oz. of 24-karat gold, which makes more sense with the price.

Yeah, wish I could afford one of these...
