Why not just take a time machine and try to get them for cover price?

There is nothing wrong with someone looking for something. There are copies for the prices he is asking out there. He didn't say he wanted a 9.8 of each..

You are talking about books with a ripped off cover or half a page cover or worse. Even the people that have those aren't selling because these are their readers. Or people don't even bother posting because they are too messed up to sell. Honestly at prices like that, you run the risk of a forgery or a european book.

I looked at the completed auctions and don't see any decent copies of the books you want anywhere near the prices you are looking for. When you quote low prices like that and then say condition is everything I doubt you'll get people jumping to sell you books. If you can get those books on ebay for those prices I'd suggest you stick with ebay.

Sorry to chip in but this thread is so interesting. I liked to drop some facts. I did a search on "giant sized x men 1" under bronze age comics. I also filter the prices to less than USD150. Below is the result.

Looks like USD150 can get you a VG- grade.

I rerun the search under 'all comics' and the result has more listing but they are all irrelevant.

If you go in and look at the pics of those results I don't think those books are too appealing though. VG- is probably stretching it for a lot of those.

I think the OP would have gotten less static had he not added the line of "condition is everything". To me what that is saying is "I'm looking for a nice book but only want to pay half market price".

I could be totally wrong though so if I am I apologize to the OP.

There was someone selling a GSX 1 and a Hulk 181, probably in G-VG condition a while back. I see his posts every now and then, you might try doing a search and see what he would be willing to part with them for.

Good sir I mean no offense to you and I honestly think no one on here is trying to offend you. And also, if we were know it alls, we would not be on this forum. As we all come on here to to learn and grow in the hobby. The only person that is pretty damn good at this game is indy, and his connections to get cgc signatures is amazing! It is just when you say condition is everything it makes it seem like you want one in fair condition and in my 20 or so years of collectiing I have never seen anything like that and if they do come around it is very rare. Either a person looking to just sale and do no research on price usually.......... But this is one of the best and most humble forums you will ever come across.............all I ask is to give us a chance and not take our comments as harsh criticism. Truthfully, we would like those books at that price as well! If you can show us, ALL of us would appreciate it.

He might want readers copies. I have a readers copy of an old valuable that I keep. It never hurts to ask. I saw a 9.4 ASM 300 go for 40.00 a couple weeks ago. So you just never know..Your best bet might be to find an ebay auction and hope it ends at night.

Sometimes I've been lucky on Ebay buying lots where the seller has no idea what's in it, and it goes for a little more than the single issue you're watching, but it has paid off for me more times than not to just bite the bullet, buy the lot and sell off what I don't want and get the book I do. It usually helps me buy the single book cheaper, and I've gotten some great condition books that way. In fact, just a few months ago I lost out on a lot because it ended at like 4am, but ended up going for around $250, but it had a Tales of Suspense #39 in it.. I needed just one more cup of coffee and I would have made it!

Just curious as to what kind of hulk 181 w/stamp you should be able to get with $350-$400.
