great movie. THE zombie movie.

the only part that irked me was the zombie that just stood still like a mannequin and then tackled the guy when he ran past.

Oh
Not a fan of the Oldies as most remakes tend to be better....and this movie was no different to me
The Revamp in 2004 was better visually as well as contained better acting over-all and the ending was superb

I own this bad boy on Blu-Ray and it looks fantastic! I also really like the 2004 version too.

I'm taking your screen name into account for your review.

While I liked the remake, it doesn't hold a candle to the original. This is the Gone with the Wind of zombie movies - it's epic.

And this is a great reason to bump this thread: Visiting the Night of the Living Dead cemetery & Dawn of the Dead mall

I too like the remake except I skip the after titles ending as being completely pointless... I haven't seen the original

haha all joking aside, it was one of THE greatest zombie movies of the era.

zombie movies nowadays have to rely on zombies being sprinters and borderline smart. zombies in the Romero era were slow, but they were just inexorable in their advances. They may move at a snails pace, but they would catch up eventually when you needed to rest.

it's a symptom of the times. slow zombies just stopped being scary. Now that most of the nation is obese, the sprinter zombie scares them again like the shamblers used to. Plus, sprinter types allow for more action. i like both types, but the originals (and remakes) will always be fun for me.

protip- watch the original night of the living dead (B&W version) and watch Ben get shot because he's black at the end. Part of romero's social commentary hidden through all of his films. The 90's color remake had him be a zombie to get shot...

I don't think he was shot because he was black, he was shot because they thought he was a zombie. The way the sheriff told the guy to shoot him and his reaction after were way too nonchalant for it to be a racist motive.

Having a black guy be the hero was all the social commentary he needed at the time.

The Tom Savini remake was awful. It had some great looking zombies, but that was about all.

Oh, and if you haven't seen it before.... SPOLIERS!

The best zombie movie ever made. This is when Romero was at his best with showing his opinion of the world or really America through a zombie movie. No other zombie movie holds a candle to this movie. I own the blu ray, reg DVD and the DVD collection that has each cut of the movie ( American, euro ect.). I hate how all the new zombie movies have them being track and field athletes, lol. I hope romero has one more good one left in him before he passes. His last few have not been as good. If you love zombie movies you must watch 1985 romeros day of the dead easily the most underrated zombie movie of all time.
