Default Thoughts/Opinions on The Waking Dead #1

Hey guys I recently just got into Comics due to The Walking Dead tv show. I have been able to go back and read all the issues of the comic and I have really enjoyed the story the comic tells. Well the collector in me has now given me the bug and Ive been purchasing back issues of TWD that I have found for a reasonable price. Well my dilemma is this. I'd really like to add a #1 to my collection. I know prices are pretty high right now, but my fear is if I dont act soon enough they will continue to rise. So what are everyones thoughts? Will this book continue to rise? Am I crazy to buy now? Any help would be much appreciated. So thank you in advance.

It may not continue to rise, but I would be shocked if it went down anytime in the next 5 years at minimum

From a comic standpoint it has hit it's peak for now.
800-900 for raw copies that people STATE are NM
I do not see ungraded breaking 1,000.00 any time soon if at all.
The book is following a trend.
You can be sure as soon as the AMC show gets dull or the zombie hype slows down, it will start to pill lead balloon status per pricing.
I tell people that these books, hell most modern books, have a limited life span in relation to hype and investment potential

Investment potential for now would be X-Men #141-142
Marvel and DC are the staples of the hobby, period.
Find nice high grade copies, have them pressed then slabbed then sit back and wait till the week the next movie is released and enjoy the reaping of profits from collecting

If you like the TWD story, buy a TPB IMO.
If you have faith in the book, I would suggest looking to buy a 1-100 lot for 2,000.00-3,000.00. Will be the most cost effective way to do your run as well as sell off duplicates.
I mean, you will be out 900 for a #1 anyway, why not triple it and have a rounded investment

Buy a Walking Dead Weekly #1. Chances are you'll find it in better condition, MUCH cheaper and it's got the same content. Those can be picked up for $50 in NM condition all day. I wouldn't invest in a #1 now as they're already way too expensive and as Gibberish said, unitl the show starts to lose steam, they're going to stay that way.

Now, on the other hand, if you find them in a garage sale, or in a collection cheap, SNAG 'EM! (possibly slab 'em and sell 'em)

Guys thank you for the advice. It is an awful lot of money and you are right about The Walking dead Weekly. Whats up with the Xmen 141-142? Also is there any other recommendations for a newbie in the comic world. I did just pick up Revival #1 and the variant cover for 30. I missed ordering at preorder bur ive heard good things about it. Also another question are graded books the way to go? It has gotten big in sports cards and have been hesitant to follow suit, but in comics im starting fresh so if thats the best way to go then ill go that route. Then if thats the case is it better to purchase the new books already graded rather then risking it myself. For instance ive got most of the Walking Dead 100 covers from Midtown and they all look great. Would you send those in or just rebuy graded? And one more thing what does grading cost?

x-men 141 and 142 cover the story arc that X-Men First Class's sequel will cover in 2014 or so. buy now and sell then.

I agree, a weekly will be the best way to go, same content, and if more people jump onto the comics from the show there is now way they will pay $1000 for a book, but $100 is reasonable to imagine the weekly selling for in a few months/years.

good advice . i would realy like a number one too . but its kind of out of my price range. the other thing is . it is red hot right now. but it no time the value could go down . all it would take is for the show to go in a bad direction , example , the director dropping off and a new one coming in to take over and ruin everyhting . or say ......... a main character decides to leave like rick ? and someone comes in that sucks ........

The art is pretty good in issue 1...Tony Moore was doing it back then and he is GOOD...it sucks now because of Adlard!

We can all offer our opinion, that's what this forum is for. Who's right, who's wrong? Hard to say, it's all speculation, but at least we get to hear different viewpoints and perhaps open our eyes to things we didn't consider beforehand. I value all opinions here and am grateful we have a place to share them.

Me personally, I'm betting on the X-Men #141 going up closer to the movies release time and you can buy them raw now for 50-100. Walking Dead #1 is way out of my price range already

Yeah that is way out of my price range too. Now if my youtube channels would blow up, we could talk about it...

Just to keep it going, what happens in #141?

I would not touch WD #1 right now. I can't afford it anyway but after the zombie craze passes I think it will drop back down to a more realistic number. The print run was small so it will always be a valuable book but not $1100.

I must also add that I suck at speculating and lost way more than I ever won. If they can ever get Preacher onto the screen (small or big) I can at least have one more win!
