Well, I just sold my 50th MLP #1 today, had to re-order. I can't keep this book. I went ahead and got some more #2's.. People are going crazy for this book.

FYI, MLP #2 delayed

Shipments of some IDW Publishing titles scheduled for release in the last two weeks of 2012 have been delayed into the new year by an eight day strike at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach that ended last week. Among the titles affected were My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic #2 and the second printings of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic #1 and the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic #1 Complete Box Set, which were originally scheduled for December 19th and will now release January 2nd

I'm ahead of the game now. I wish I would have gotten a Micro! I ordered so many of the others, by the time that was announced I was so deep in Pony Poo I was scared to buy another. Hindsight's always 20/20.

Is the Katie Cook signed ones worth investing in? My friend is a bronie and I think itd be great to show him a graded #1 signed one xD

At the moment I want to pull the trigger on a #1 MLP comic, and pre-order/do a subscription for the rest, but I'm not sure which cover is the best to get? There are so many, but I don't have the $ to pick them all up lol, just want to get one to hold on for PC and maybe pass down one day? Any suggestions? It seems from reading the thread maybe the Midtown variant?

I think you are referring to DF exclusive signed by katie cook? I believe someone on the CGC board said you can not have that slabbed.

I didn't buy it because you can't get them slabbed and don't know the condition.

Id say go with one of the rarer covers. There are a bunch.

The 1:10 variant
Ghost variant
Phantom variant
Midtown variant
Subscription sparkly cover one

ah I see, that's a shame lol. which variant would you recommend then?
It seems IndySportsCards got the Midtown edition and sent that to be graded. The DF signed variant is 25$ on the midtown comics link you sent me earlier.

Yes I believe Indy did. I have purchased 5 myself as well as A through F regular covers.

You can get it slabbed, but it will be a Green Label and not a Yellow Label

Green label CGC books do not resell well. The green label basically says CGC will not authenticate the signature, even though it may be valid. If they don't personally see it signed, it won't get a yellow label. This also helps yellow label books demand such a high premium.

I did sent the Midtown Variant in for grading. It's my favorite of the variants.

The midtown variant is the derpy cover. I believe that derpy was a character named by the fans. This is the cover Im banking on, but id really like to get a subscription sparkly cover. Unfortunately I cant unless i want to spend money :P

If this is the case, is the DF #1 without signature worth investing in + grading?
I'm wondering if that big white box kills it though lol

Based off your guys' recommendations, so far I'm thinking about getting the Amy Mebberson midtown, sparkly Jill Thompson subscription one, and the Stephanie Buscema cover. stinks to be late in the game on pricing but I still remember playing these toys with my little sister so I don't mind.. and I still want to show to my brony friend LOL XD

I cant see the link at work but Im guessing its the phantom variant also known as larrys variants. He just started the phantom variants. I have talked to him a few times on the CGC board and i dont ever remember him releasing his print runs so I dont know how they can say 1:750 but the print run was around 80k if i remember correctly. 1:750 is probably a good guess, though Im not sure how much in demand the phantom variants are.

There are also ghost variants. I believe they both hate each other and are in competition right now.

I believe his first phantom variant was bedlam #1

This isn't a phantom variant. It looks like one of his own store variants that is on his site for 34.99. The only variant of his that I think would have been worth getting is the split cover he did with Double Midnight Comicshop. I think the print run on MLP was close to a million (please correct me if i'm wrong), so 1:750 isn't too "rare" in the grand scheme of things...

On a side note. I think the phantom variant program might have died a silent death. He was supposed to release one a week for a while, but he hasn't put one out yet. After his outburst a few weeks ago, I'd be surprised if anybody feels bad about this.

I cant believe I actually just bought the MLP 1-3 books. I am a betting man and if Indy says these books could be HOT, then why not take a shot.

Ended up getting the Midtown variants on all 3. They are hilarious covers. If they don't pan out, I can at least give them to my little niece to read at some point

Thanks, Skel. My memory added an extra zero. The article I was thinking of said they were close to 100,000 not 1,000,000

I bought one. The image is from the micro print limited to 125, which if listed correctly is going for $100+. Figure if what I get in the mail is another micro, I rake the benefits. If not I can probably get my $ back selling or if they ripped off the micro print copy pic to drive sales I can send it back for refund. Sounds sh***y on me but if you aren't going to post actual pics on the listing and throw out 1:750 then it's your own fault.

The image in the ebay listing is the store variant, which I believe is limited to 750. The micro print edition was limited to 125 and the color is slightly different. If you check out Larry's variant site, you'll see the difference.

I see now. Oh well. Looked very similar so I thought why not. Even still, can't hurt to have it anyway since the ponies have been so hot.
