Default Key Issue Help

So, since I've gotten back into collecting comics, I'm really trying to re-educate myself on nice "key" books to get as my budget allows me to. So I have a question for all of the comic gurus here...where can I find a list of key Marvel/DC super-hero issues or can someone just give me some they think would be nice pick-ups? I'm looking for Bronze-Modern Age that won't cost me an arm and a leg to pick up. I found another forum and came up with the small list below, but I would really like some more input if you can offer any.

New Mutants #98 (1st Deadpool)
Amazing Spider-Man #252 (1st Black Costume in ASM)
Uncanny X-Men #266 (1st Gambit)
Secret Wars #8 (1st Black Costume)
XFactor #24 (1st Archangel)
Superman #75 (Death of Superman)
Captain America #25 (Death of Caps)
Batman: The Killing Joke (I already have a copy of this coming in)
Batman #497 (Bane breaking Batman's back) (I already have a copy of this one)
Infinity Gauntlet series (already have a couple copies of #1 plus a full run)

Also, if you can give a reason why it would be a key issue, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks everyone!!!

What's your budget and how important is condition to you?

I think the key books with the highest potential for value increases would be titles related to Thanos, as well as Thor #344 and Guardians of the Galaxy titles.

I've always wanted a Spider-Man #129 myself (1st Punisher) but they're so ungodly expensive already.

Key Titles to keep an eye out for would be
Marvel Preview #7 (1976) if you want Rocket Raccoon’s first.

Iron Man #55 – The First appearance of Thanos. If there was ever one comic to buy for your collection right now, this would be It. (VERY expensive now)

Marvel Super-Heroes #12 – Featuring Captain Marvel! The first Captain Marvel. Captain Marvel could be the answer to DC’s Superman. The potential upticks here for Captain Marvel is simply astounding. Buy this.

Fantastic Four #48 – 1st Watcher, Silver Surfer AND Galactus also make their debut here.

The Infinity Gems – It’s very safe to assume that Thanos will be seeking the gems in the second Avengers film. Here are some of the comics that feature the first look at these gems that the madman craves.

Power of Warlock #1
Marvel Team-Up #55
Avengers Annual #7.
Incredible Hulk #234 – First appearance of Quasar.
Strange Tales #138 – First appearance of Eternity.
The Eternal #2 – The Celestial first appear here.
Captain Marvel #27 – Death first appears here.
Tales of Suspense #79 - 1st look at the Cosmic Cube
Secret Wars #1 – The Beyonder makes his debut here.
Quasar #24 – First appearance of Infinity.
Giant Sized Defenders #3 – First look at Korvac.
Fantastic Four #20 – First Molecule Man.
X-Men #15 – First appearance of Onslaught.
Fantastic Four #18 – First Super-Skrull.
Thor #344 - 1st Dark Elf (Movie villain)

There are more, but this should give you start on some cool books to look out for

Budget would probably be around $200 a month on comics? It's hard for me to gauge a number on it since I just started collecting again. I've been going to Half-Price Books, resale shops and a few comic shops in the last few weeks looking for books I like or deals I can't pass up. I've also made some purchase on CCL. Total spent in the last 2 months? Probably around $350-400 total.

Condition doesn't matter as much for older books as I would be willing to sacrifice condition for cost (hence the pretty beat up copy of Silver Surfer #1 in my avatar) but with newer ones I would almost need them to be VF-NM+ if that's the right terminology.

Thanks for the list, Indy and I totally agree on the Thanos suggestion. I've been reading your threads here and keeping up with the Lyria link to get ideas on stuff to pick up.

Oh and BTW, you don't need to tell me about the FF #48 book...as a huge SS fan, that's my Holy Grail!!!

Showcase #4
More fun COmics #73
Action Comics 242
FF 48
FF 52
Tales of suspense 49

If you want to dig deep and invest for years to come....save your money

EC Comics ( not the reprints )

Weird Science
Weird Fantasy
Weird Science and Weird Fantasy
Weird Science-Fantasy
Incredible Science Fiction

I would recommend the old EC Horror as well.

The growth rate on the old EC stuff is VERY surprising. I have seen double return on several purchases made earlier in the year from 10-18.00 purchases going out at 30-40.00 in sales.
People see those Wood and Feldstein covers and flip for them.
You will, oddly enough, see a faster investment return on the EC stuff than most stuff that isn't going to be in a movie over the next 3 years.

I think buying a Ironman 55 is a waste of money right now though.
Spend less money and grab Dark Avengers #1, get a few copies of it. The Iron patriot look will make people smile and spend, driving it's value up

Good luck pack !

While I tend to side towards Marvel in my likes, I'd like to get some key DC issues as well. Most of the lists above are Marvel...can anyone offer up some decent DC issues to get? Same criteria. Thanks!

IM 55 could be a toss up. It is a double key though since it's also Drek's first appearance from Guardians of the Galaxy. They just announced Thanos as one of the villains for that movie also.

Dark Avengers #1 (NYCC & Midtown variants) were moving pretty well at first when Iron Patriot was announced to appear in Iron Man 3. The fire pretty much died for the moment though. Might pick up more once it gets closer to May.

Another cheap book you can pick up right now is Battle Scars #1, first black Nick Fury, and with ABC picking up Joss Weadon's SHIELD TV show, might be a wise pick up. I found one today for $3.50

Thanks for the input. I might go after a NTT #2. I've always liked Deathstroke.

I'm watching some Dark Avengers auctions on Ebay and might pick up a few at my local if they have any. Thanks for the input!

Lot of that list should be "as seen cheap" on pick ups
Most of the DC is cool or cooling fast

Flash and Green Arrow, brainiac anything that is JLA related will not come down much until DC let's people know if they are getting in Feet 1st on the Avengers craze with their answer to it, JLA.

I think Adventure comics #283...will explode soon depending on how the role is portrayed in December....however, i do not expect Michael Shannon to give a paramount performance.
