Question Essential Omnibus/Compendium Volumes

I've recently been more interested in comics and comic characters in general as I've gotten into sketch cards.

I'm interested in getting some of the hardcover collections just for reading purposes.

I was wondering what are some of the "essential" omnibus or compendium volumes you'd suggest for the DC/Marvel characters.

I've got Batman pretty well-covered already, so those can be excluded.

Amazing Spider-Man Master Works volumes are super cool. Check them out to see which era of Spidey you would like.

They also have them for the Fantastic Four, Uncanny X-Men and pretty much all of the major Marvel books. They are pretty cheap on Amazon as they have gone through a number of printings. It's a good chance to see some rare comics in glossy, nicely colored format.

Thanks--yeah, I think it's pretty cool that you can read the old comics this way.

Do you know if the hardcovers have the individual issue covers as well or are the issues not separated?

The editions I've read feature the original covers along with the stories. So don't worry about everything running together in one big narrative.
