12/19 - Django Unchained #1 Incentive Jim Lee Variant Cover - Could be HOT!

midtown has it now for Pre-Order, Jim Lee Variants alone usually go up in value quickly, if this movie is a hit expect it to explode.

Also, Happy #3 comes out next week, it also has a variant you can pre-order now.

Looks like graham cracker comics has 1 left for $7.99, somebody better scoop it up now!

Pretty sure it's the same comic but could be wrong.

skel1977 12-12-2012 02:06 PM

I am skeptical about django. I dont think I can dish out 20 bucks for the 1:25 based on my skepticism

jasonadkins 12-12-2012 02:14 PM

Have movie adaptation comics done well in the past? It seems like if the movie or cartoon comes before the comic, those comics don't sell too well. Plus this story doesn't involve the supernatural, so are comic fans really going to flock to it?

Could be, but Lee variants do well. I'm gonna get 1 just for S&G's.

Can anyone think of a movie to comic book that did or is doing well?
Can anyone think of a movie to comic book that did or is doing well?
Star Wars. ;)

skel1977 12-12-2012 02:35 PM

Ill pick up a couple just based on the fact that the movie seems to be stirring up controversy

IndySportsCards 12-12-2012 02:42 PM

I think this might be the variant cover

Even Star Wars #1 from 1977 doesn't sell that well, if you compare it to the first appearance of say Deadpool, Venom, Gambit, etc. that came out way later in the comi world, and much less than Sabretooth's first appearance that came out in the same year (1977). Comics of The Matrix, G.I. Joe, Transformers, etc. have a little value, but not like legitimate Superhero comic key issues.

If the Django Jim Lee is cheap enough next month and I end up going to the Phoenix Comic Con in late January, I might try to get one or two CGC Yellow labelled by Jim Lee. I don't see it being worth a $25 pre-order if it's only a 1:25. The Jim Lee Before Watchmen 1:200 books can be had under $50, and there is already a built-in comic audience for them; so no way do I see a 1:25 Django as a $25 DLVD book.

chalado 12-12-2012 03:50 PM

G.I. Joe #155...but that was the last issue and not the first.

Not really a movie to comic, but TV/Toy to comic that performs well on the open market.

jasonadkins 12-12-2012 04:03 PM

Just checked into into it, I guess the comic version of Django is a 5 book mini-series, and the selling point is that it "might" have some scenes in the comics that are too gorry for the movie. I guess if Django the movie gets some Oscar hype like Inglorious Basterds did, then maybe the comic will get a little love around that time. I'd still shy away from the $25 price tag at this time though.

• Oscar-winning writer/director Quentin Tarantino's latest epic film script is adapted for comics! • The blood-soaked tale of a bounty-hunting dentist and his partner, a recently freed slave, in the post-Civil War South! • This is an adaptation of the full screenplay, including scenes that may not make it into the final theatrical cut!

Now THIS is what I am excited about in this post (not necessarily the Variant, but just the book to read, probably my favorite comic to read ever, and it's only two issues in).

Yeah, I love Happy too. If you like Morrison, you should start reading Batman Incorporated. He's going a killer job on that book.

Bump. Another miss for me. To those who got in nice work and sell, sell, sell while the movie is hot!

Yeah, I totally dug the twist in #3 - GREAT story!! TO those not reading it, you're missing out on a killer book

hellojeffy 12-30-2012 03:13 PM

My Facebook newsfeed is spammed with people saying how awesome Django Unchained was lol

jasonadkins 12-30-2012 06:09 PM

AAGGGHHHHH!!!!

So i did add one copy of the Jim lee Variant to my Graham Crackers order, I got them on Friday. All of the cheap books I ordered are perfectly clean, and of course, my Django Variant has a small sliver of scotch tape on the bottom, probably when some 18 year old kid who was bagging and boarding them screwed up. Should I try to remove the tape, and if so, what is the best way to do it without damaging the book? A little help here...

IndySportsCards 12-30-2012 07:04 PM

Tape on the cover? That's not right. I'd ask for an exchange or a full refund. You're not going to be able to sell that without headaches.

Carrbeaz 12-30-2012 07:24 PM

Why do places even use tape anymore with the resealable bags

IndySportsCards 12-30-2012 07:27 PM
Why do places even use tape anymore with the resealable bags
The resealable ones cost more, some places don't want to pay the extra .02 cents per bag. I prefer the resealable ones, less chances of snagging your book with rogue pieces of tape.

I wonder how come a comic shop, either online or brick and mortar, has not surfaced that attempts to cater to the condition conscious collector.

Like one that has a mission statement that they are always focused on selecting the best copies for their customers or always take the greatest care in shipping out their orders.

I understand completely how comics are shipped out, especially from diamond (they are horrid), but I am sure if a place did this they would eventually gain a solid customer base.

I'll call them tomorrow, but a full refund of $8 is not what I'm looking for when this book is selling upwards of $120 just after release. I doubt they have any more copies of this book, maybe I'll get lucky. Oh, and once again, you were right on this one Indy, and I am stuck here eating crow. Sorry if I talked anyone out of this one; never listen to me and my infinitely dumb wisdom.

I'm not always right, but this time was $137 worth of right ;)
