Default A question about getting comics in general

Hi everyone! I am curious:

When you guys get comics to read or subscribe to them, do you generally only get 1 normal copy for read, and get variants of important issues (#1s, first appearances, etc.) that you leave un-touched for investment/collective purposes, or for issues like #2 and onward do you still get 2 copies of the normal cover, 1 for read and 1 for leaving unread?

I always feel like I should keep a good quality copy hidden away in case, but then it also adds up since I'm paying twice the amount for just reading the same content, and for a college student it adds up.

Thanks for any feedback! Would be appreciated ^^!

In general, buying comics to profit financially is a bad idea. Buy what you like to read. Hard for me to answer this question, because I dont really collect anything other than 2 or 3 titles. The ones I actually read I only buy one copy for myself but I never take them out of the plastic. I buy the trade paperbacks instead once they are released.

I have been flipping for one year now(collecting longer), this will actually be the first year i have to file taxes for "comic book" income. Its a lot of work, there is always the next big thing to buy so you need to keep flipping to buy more comics to flip. Its a never ending vicious cycle and I dont suggest it for a college student low on funds or someone new to collecting.

Good advice from Skel1977. Buy what you like to read because chances are you're going to have more of them around you than what you can sell at a profit. It's hard to pick the winners, they are few and far between, but it's also how some of us play to pay for titles we want to pick up. I think the hottest sleeper right now is Nowhere Men #1 and #2 (Which is printed less than #1 was, and #1 only had 11k printed and it's picking up fans left and right).. Midtown has those at cover price right now, buy two, sell one, keep one. If you can keep it for 3 months without selling it for a profit, THEN read it.

Hey skel1977 and Indy, thanks for the replies!

I wasn't planning to do any flipping, but moreso wanted to keep one copy of every issue in good untouched condition, while having one to be able to read the content and can be roughed (since I let friends read as well). But it seems as a bad idea since like you guys said-- I'm low on funds.

I guess the best route to go is to buy one copy still and handle with extreme care when reading it?
