Default Contemplating a Trade Involving WD #1

I figured this is the best comic forum to ask this question since it involves cards. I'm interested to hear your guys' thoughts.

When I was cleaning out my grandmother's attic this weekend I found a complete set (to the best of my knowledge) of Sportscaster cards from 1977-79 that were given to me when I was a kid. If you are familiar with this set you know the Wayne Gretzky card is the gem followed by the Larry Bird and Magic Johnson cards. I have all three and am confident they will grade quite high.

A friend of a friend said he'd trade the graded cards for a CGC (friend couldn't remember if it was 9.6 or 9.8) copy of Walking Dead #1.

So...should I make this trade? Do you see WD #1 going any higher? Would these cards be worth holding onto instead? Or should I just unload them and cash in?

Thanks guys

Depends on the condition of the cards. If you want to scan them and shoot me photos I may be able to help you out. Don't go trading them away just yet. WD will continue to rise, but not rapidly. Same with your cards, but I think you can do better with the cards by selling them graded, and taking your profits and buying a WD #1 and having a few bucks left over, but again, it depends on their condition, and I may know someone who might be interested in working a deal with you.

I dont know much about sportscards but it sounds like you might be holding onto 3 major rookie cards. What happens to the value of the WD #1 when and if the show ever goes off the air

It'll probably be cut in half is my guess. Die hards will still want it, but the demand will drop is my guess. The cards on the otherhand will not lose their value.

Thanks, Indy. I'll try to scan them tomorrow when I get home and will shoot you a link. Let me know if there are any other cards in that set you'd be interested in seeing.

I've asked this a few times in the cards section, but haven't had too many responses. So for any of the card guys in the room...

Should I go the PSA route or BGS/BVG route with these cards? They are from 1977-79.

Here is a link to a recent auction for the Gretzky card. It's BGS but I've seen a lot of these graded psa.

I think PSA would be the rout to go for any cards pre-1982; they generally have a little more leniency in grading and also sell for more. Not sure if it still costs $100 just to join for a year, but it will be worth it if you ran into a huge high grade lot of these cards. Good luck and keep us updated.

Thanks! Really appreciate the insight. It looks like you don't have to be a member anymore. Even if I did, the three gems of this set are all in great condition from what I can tell that it would be worth it.
