Default Predict the next comic to get a movie/TV show.

Fun little thread for us speculators.

Lots of books will get optioned, but that doesn't really mean much. It just ties the property up under a production company and there's no guarantee anything will be made of it. In fact, I optioned the rights to the novel MEG years ago to make a video game based upon it, but shortly after I did that, the Jaws game was released and it did poorly and I couldn't find any funding for my game. I need to check the paperwork, but I still think I have the rights to do it.

My game would have been better than that stupid Jaws game.

As far as comics getting made into a TV series/Movie. Hrm. Todd would be good.

Agreed with what Indy said. I went to a Screenwriter's Summit two years in a row in LA, and I can't remember his name, but there was a writer who wrote a movie based on the 1908 San Francisco earthquake. He sold it to Spielbeg for $1 Million 10 years ago, still hasn't been in any production yet the guy made a cool Mill. Granted Spielberg usually has a handful of projects going at any time, and a $1 Million gamble to him is pretty much nothing, but a comic being optione or looked at is not a guarantee of anything. We keep hearing about Thief of Thieves, Revival, Peter Panzerfaust, Happy, etc., but until casting and production begins, there are no guarantees.

My guess is Happy is a slam dunk to be made; Rza seems focused on getting it done and with Hudlin's money it should get done. I am dying to read Happy 4, and praying somehow an ongoing series gets made. Morrison did an amazing job of writing the comic, and since he's set to write the screenplay, I don't think it can fail. My guess on Happy is that casting starts around March, filming goes from August through November, the movie releases April of 2014. How awesome would Bruce Willis be as Nick Sax?

He fits the character very well. If they cast Tom Cruise, I'll go ape-#@#@#@#@ crazy. That's just wrong.

And whatever you do, DO NOT let Howie Mandel be the voice of Happy!

I too LOVE Happy. The book rocks and a full blown movie based off it will blow peoples minds. I think he'll expand the story even larger than what we've gotten in four books.

I think sometimes producers lock up properties under option agreements to keep their competitors from getting them, knowing full well they're not going to do anything with it. They just don't want someone else doing it. Kinda like how Dave Hester drives up the price on auction storage units, knowing he doesn't want it, it's just so Daryll or Brandi have to pay more for it

Well Revivals pretty much sunk for a tv show if that "The return" or whatever gets made by abc. Panzerfaust is supposed to be a bbc show. Thief is an NBC show I think. Chew is showtime. Happy a movie. Sixth gun a show - I'm gonna take a stab and say something like Rachel Rising might be next - if it continues at the pace it's at. Todd is promising but too early. Morning glories would be sweet but convoluted. This talk of Y the last man does make me wonder if Brian might go soft and make Saga a show. Imagine those ebay listings then...

If done right it could be a great one.

I bet something in the lines of "Stumptown" might be a good show...Portland based shows are on the rise, with Portlandia, Grimm, and the now canceled Leverage!

Stumptown is a crime noir based in Portland...a good read and I could see a show being made out of it!

I think Mickey Rourke would be even better...he's got more of the disheveled/beat up by life look that Nick needs to have.

Bruce willis and Mickey Rourke would be great scores for casting. Bruce for Nick Sax and Mickey for the "cowboy" at the poker game.

Another current comic that would make a good tv show is Hawkeye. The writing is great, however Arrow might have muddied the water for viewership.

I am going a little more mainline and will say Iron Fist, the Inhumans or a longshot would be Deadpool.

Reid Fleming, Worlds Toughest Milkman. now THAT would be a killer movie. I looked into obtaining the rights years ago myself, but Dan Akroyd had already optioned them, and you can see he's been sitting on it for years doing nothing with it, which is a damn shame, the book is awesome.

I think this new title Sex has a lot of potential..Just read the basic outline of the story, makes it quite interesting..Would have to be on Showtime, between Gigalos and californication..

I think Saga would make great movie/TV show but Vaughan has already stated it doesn't want it to be used for either.

I think Invincible would make an awesome film or TV series,
also Young Avengers

While it would not really be based on the comics but George RR Martins Hedge Knight/Hedge Knight 2 novellas/mini-series. At least I hope that happens.

Wouldn't clone be a good candidate for a TV show?

I mean, its creator is a TV producer and writer. Not only that, he has invited 2 of his TV producer buddies to write the series from issue 6.

This is on top of the fact that clone is part of Robert Kirkman's image line.

In terms of cost, I don't think clone will be as expensive to make relative to titles such as saga.

Morning glories is also a possible candidate. High school + Lost. Sounds like a winner
