I have a friend who said their father left them a collection of almost 800 Spider-Man books, not just Amazing but all the spinoffs like Peter Parker and Marvel Team Ups. I asked if there are any 60's books but he thinks they start in the 70's. Anyways, I know about Amazing #129 first Punisher, 300 first Venom, 361 first Carnage. What other 1970's-2000's Spidey books are considered key issues? I was pretty honest with him about what I could pay for them if I got a crack at them and he could shop them to comic stores if he wanted, etc.
Of course in the back of my mind I'm hoping he finds an Amazing Fantasy 15, but I'm thinking more realistically. Anyways, any key books I should tell him to look for? |

Thanks guys, but from owning my card shop a decade ago and hearing about these types of "my father passed on and left us his collection" type things, I was usually disappointed. I did have one great one from a woman in Utah that drove out to Vegas to piece things out, although she knew the Beckett values and actually overpriced things thinking I would give her 50% of Hi Beckett Value on cards from the 1950's and 60's thate were EX-MT condition. I did end up paying $950 for a Jackie Robinson 49 Bowman that was super clean, had to submit it a few times but got a BVG/BGS 8 on it and sold it for $2200.
I imagine mostly mid 80's to early 2000's books in this lot with a few badly damaged late 70's books, but with 800 books in there you never know. Hopefully in a week or so I can let you know what came of this good or bad. It sounds like a fun venture even if it does turn out to be a ton of garbage books. Thanks again for the replies. |

Man, This is one of those questions that could make a Multi page response. With a run of 700 Issues you are going to have a lot of key's. There might be a better resource but I like to use the site: Atomic Avenue: Buy Comic Books Online | Comic Books for Sale - AtomicAvenue.com for the notes on issues. It's a buying website but I find the info helpful when looking for key's on an older run. Personally I think the best key's are 1st Appearances.
*disclaimer *If you don't normally buy from Atomic keep in mind the sellers are individual sellers most of which I find are terrible. You can't see the books so often over-graded and lots of situations were you buy a book no response for weeks then after you email them they will say they don't have the book and refund you. With that said, there probably are good sellers but you can't really save by buying in bulk since you have to pay the high $4+ shipping on each book you order even if same vendor, similar to Amazon. |

The new spider-man movies are based on the Ultimate Spider-Man comic story. In Ultimate Spider-Man, electro is black and bald wears black leather who 100% Jamie Foxx will be playing, not the old white guy in green and yelliw spandex. I think when more people realize this Ultimate Spider-Man #10, 1st Ultimate Electro will blow up. The ultimate spider-man run had pretty low print's for such a major character. Great story as well.

Ha, sort of. I find the general consensus on this issue is actually wrong. Do i blame the collector? Hell, no. Companies like PGX give consumers wrong information. For example, SECRET WARS #8. This is not the 1st app of alien costume that later becomes venom, Amazing Spider-Man #252 predates this issue, CGC even states as 1st black costume which is a tie in with Marvel Team UP #141 and Spectacular Spiderman #90 which came out same time, many say 141 came out prior by a week or two to #252. Story wise though 252 was supposed to be first. Then you might say "well at that time the costume wasn't venom and was re-written into the story", ok I get that. But lets look at Spider-Man #258 then :"The Sinister Secret of Spider-Man's New Costume!" is a comic book published by Marvel & released on 11//1984. I mean the symbiote is even on the cover for gods sake. Secret Wars #8 didn't even come out until a month later in Dec 1984. So Secret Wars #8 is the 1st appearance of nothing. It is an origin issue and that's it, nothing more.

And this is only if we are talking about the dates on these books. http://s1125.beta.photobucket.com/us...l?sort=4&o=323
