How does one interpret that information? It is not logical to believe that there were under 833 orders/print run on Peter Panzerfaust #8 being its not on the list. I assume not everything is reported, or it's a month(s) behind of actual release?

Wow! In one calendar year, The Walking Dead went from a print run of 31,600 for #93 to 70,500 for #106. I hope that #108 stays in the 70K range, not sure if retailers were made aware of the cover having a cool looking new character when they got their orders in a few months ago. With season 3 of the show picking up a lot of steam, I wonder if WD will see monthly numbers over 100,000 within the next year (my guess is yes).
That really makes me want to pick up some of the early, under 15,000 made copies in high grade. It seems like every fifth time I'm in a comic shop there is someone who is asking the clerk about Walking Dead comics and is just getting into collecting the comics because they're addicted to the show. At some point these people will be springing some money for the back issues that have gone up in value. I just picked this up http://www.ebay.com/itm/The-Walking-Dead-53-CGC-9-8-SS-by-Robert-Kirkman-and-Charlie-Adlard-AMC-TV-/160969487573?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT&nma=true&si=puYCoZDHoOiXhMmHfN2zFQxnpZE%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc since I just got a paypal Bill Me Later credit; I don't see it going down any in six months. As for Todd the Ugliest Kid on Earth, it makes me laugh a little that there are still some people on these boards saying that all of the new Image titles will have much higher print runs based on the success in the last year of Saga, ToT, Manhattan Projects, and Peter Panzerfaust. I really wish I would have sprung a few bucks on some Todd pre-orders, I just figured I would pick them up during the first week of release (got three from Midtown with pretty bad spine damage). |

Todd has been a great title, both in content and resale. Walking Dead is a no-brainer if you can find back issues in decent shape. They just keep going up in value.

I manage Comichron -- tried to answer this a couple of days ago but only got my registration approved today. I can answer your question about the placement of PP #8.
The way Diamond works their information release is that they put out all titles 300th place and above -- and then they also release a limited number of data points for small publishers who have a market share of less that 1%. That's why you can see numbers on my charts down into the 400th places -- which is where you're getting that 833 figure. But that skips over all the Marvel, DC, Image, Dark Horse, Dynamic Forces, and IDW titles that might be after 300th place. So if the title you're talking about is an Image book that released in January, it could be as high as 4,250 copies, which is the 300th place level on this chart: Comic Book Sales Figures for January 2013. They simply don't report any major publisher titles after 300th, just the small indies. The July issue, which seems to be the last time it charted, had an estimated figure of 4,546, so it could easily be in the 4000s yet just beneath the reporting threshold for the month. Thanks! You can also get a quick reference for where the cutoff on the chart has been falling here: 300th Place Comics by Month, 1999-present
As you will see, it has been getting harder to make the list as more titles are coming out. |
