That makes comic investing interesting. Everybody has his or her opinion and buy the comics respectively. If everybody thinks the same then it will be no fun Not many people think hulk annual 5 is important which is great as I can pick them up for cheap. If I am right, then $$. If I am wrong, then the loss isn't too big, compared to picking something like TTA 13.

Personally speaking, I am neutral to Groot but I trust my wife reactions. She looks at the poster and thinks Groot is interesting so I follow her reaction

Agreed about Boba Fett and Yoda. Not sure who are the counterparts in GOTG.

For sure, don't get me wrong about your liking Groot or thinking he has wide stream appeal as that is evident and likely. My point mainly being why is Incredible hulk annual 5 important to you? Cause it's stated as his 2nd appearance or because he appears at all, just curious? Cause Where Monsters Dwell #6 came out in Nov 1970 exactly 10 years after his 1st appearance and about 6 years before Hulk Annual 5 in Dec 1976. So techinically WMD6 is his 2nd appearance, but one could argue that since it's a Reprint it's not a second appearance. It's really the non unified definitions of collecting in general and how the market reacts that confuses me.

Bingo. Reprint, to me, doesn't count as a 2nd appearance. It is just a reprint, like how our modern 2nd print works. We don't count 2nd or 3rd prints as 2nd or 3rd appearance. Similar logic.

The cover is also an appealing factor to me. Groot is there on the cover, along with 4 other monsters so that makes it more attractive than if Groot is not on the cover.

The variant? Because everyone here still has them for retail price.

How many copies do you want me to send you!? That's ridiculous.

How much do they usually cost there? 2 pounds - 2.50? Last time I was there the conversion rate was like $1.60.

They were £1.95 but delivery was 50p.
I picked up 10 copies & sold 3 over last couples of days.
I still know a few places I can pick them up for cover.

UK market is quite good at the moment.
I was getting £25 for Last of us 3 a week after release but unfortunately more copies came on the market last week & this has dropped prices back down to £10.

My only problem with selling at the moment is I seem to of picked up a stalker!!
Not sure if you saw my thread about someone copying my text from a listing for his.
Well since then this person has been pretty much selling anything he see's I am selling & making money on & then undercutting my prices by few pence. It starting to get really annoying.
If I list anything modern I can pretty much guarantee that within a day or 2 he will start selling exact same thing!!
I guess it's an open market etc & in general from what I can see I do sell more on average than he is. But still is getting on my nerves a bit

Sorry as i know this is totally off topic in regards to heating up, but I enjoy this discussion so screw it. So while it is a reprint of the story it's not a 2nd print or 3rd. As well if you look at moderns they are printed shortly after the 1st print and not 10 years later. To me it's unique therefore not following the same logic but then again nothing does with comics. You as well make great statements and I like how you analyze the market and peoples spending as well. Trust me it will drive you crazy, though, cause nothing follows logic and nothing stands true as a constant.

So annoying, I have experienced the same thing before. I can give you some advice if you want. Not that I don't think you are extremely knowledgeable but just some things that might help if you don' t know them already. PM me if you care to.

Sorry as well but I like to continue this interesting conversation.

Reprint vs second appearance. I don't know which is better. Maybe the Groot experience will tell us better when the movie launches

My guide to buying comics is to understand market sentiment and not how I personally perceive the book. There is a lot of human factors going through the market. Affordability for example, is one. Buying all high grades is a safe bet but you price yourself out of liquidity. Majority of folks don't spend more than a couple of hundreds.

Bearing this mind, I look for books that will fill this demand (i.e. the couple of hundreds category), after the premium first appearance gets priced out. It can be
-lower grade or
- second appearance or
- first premiere issue or
- a first appearance of a related character.

When a character or series gets hot, everything related gets pull along, not only for first appearance. That is why I buy Hulk annual 5

Similar for black panther as well. If you believe this character will get hot, what else will be pulled along beside FF 52. For me, it can be one of the following:

- Jungle action 5: first sole story
- Black Panther 1: first #1
- FF53: second appearance

heck even the first appearance of his daughter might get a little heat.

My 2 cents. I am NOT an EXPERT!!

Avengers #52? When he joins the Avengers if he will be in the Avengers 2 or 3. Maybe not for mainstream, but definitely for the collector.

I have looked up prices of similar incidents and prices don't seem to move a lot. If i am betting, i will not go for this issue as my first choice.

Deadpool 65? I have had that book in my $1 box for the last two months, just pulled it out of there. What's the draw to it? The Playboy Bunny cover?

Justice League #22 might be a good pickup IMHO, especially the SDCC variant

Is it me or is spider man 361 steadily increasing in price?
I also saw it poping up in Lyria a couple of times.
Is it because of the new title?

The latest one just ended with at $28 with 7 bidders

And the recent NM sale

It might be that the demand for reading is still higher then the demand for slabbed books with this title. Keep in mind that buying market for slabs is still very small compared the active readership of the title. Over time the value will rise.
