Carr,

How do you feel about pressing specialty covers such as chromium covers? Thanks.

Those really have to be experimented with before pressing.. Covers like that react quite differently to heat.

Sounds dangerous, LOL.

Ok, since that's a no for me, then is there any advice you can give me to clean a chromium cover to maybe wipe finger prints, etc. off before grading?

Get some museum cloth gloves to handle for no fingerprints and use a microfiber cloth to clean.

For those of you who picked up avengers #55. Curious the condition of the books you are finding.

I have a couple sets of 54 and 55 about a month or two ago. Here's one set:

And here's the other set that is not as in good shape. I got these for a steal though on Ebay.

With the white/off white covers they could probably use some pressing loving.

I've found VG to Fine raw, but most 9.0+ are selling graded for 800-1500 already

I have 4-5 copies I picked up a few months back. They range from f+ to vf+.

Nice. I have one last one owner collection I'm picking from, but haven't seen 'em yet.

Golden and silver age books are actually easier to press than some modern books. The new glossy pages and inks used in modern presses are much more susceptible to heat.

Thanks to those who sent me copies of Avengers #55 to press. You guys scored some nice copies and hope that it nets some big grade bumps.

It's probably tough to judge, but do you think this copy would benefit from a press if I sent it to you? It's about a 4.0-5.0, detached bottom staple.

I figure a press can't hurt it, right? Even a .5 bump would be great.

That looks better than a 4-5... It faces up really well. Is just the cover detached, or more internal pages?

It's just the cover that's detached from the bottom staple, I believe when I checked the inner pages were still fully attached.

You know what is so cool about doing this... you get to see some really cool books pass through your hands.

Here comes some much deserved praise for Carr and his pressing service:
- Pressed my ASM 121 from a 8.5 into a 9.0-9.2
- Pressed my Uncanny X-men 266 from a 9.4 into a 9.6 (fingers crossed for 9.8)
- Pressed my Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen 134 from a 5.0 into a 6.5 or better (really amazing job here at getting out creases. It looks like a totally different comic)
I wish I would have taken before and after pics, but I will post pics of my newly pressed comics shortly.
As many people have said before me, if you are considering sending comics in to be graded and they have creases, non-color breaking spine ticks or spine role, send them to Carr first. I had the comics back to me within a week of sending them to him!
Send your comics to Carr, you won't regret it!

Carr is the man! Can't wait to get this baby back. I'll post up some more picks when I get it in hand.
