Default Going to work is a little easier when your office looks like this (StripSide Comics)

Well, I did open the shop on May 1st so that I could be open for Free Comic Book Day. I knew I was a few weeks away from being really ready to open, but FCBD was a huge success in that I got about 100 people to come through the door that day, many that found me on the website for FCBD.

Well, the store is looking better every day, a little more organized and more inventory coming in each week. Our in-store artist did some pretty cool stuff with the walls, judge for yourself:

The Hulk is about five feet high by eight feet wide, Thanos is about eight feet tall. Thanks for the look and all the support along the way of opening guys.

This week I bet anything it was Yu-Gi-Oh... they just released a new expansion and it is on FIRE. My LCS friend is selling it hand over fist.

Thanks guys, if you're ever in Vegas we are on Las Vegas Boulevard, a few miles from the major casinos (not walking distance). We are across from the South Point Casino, which in less than a month is having the biggest Comic Con in Vegas history with Stan Lee, Jim Lee, and a huge guest to be announced Monday as well. We have two booths for that show and are doing anything we can to get people to step foot in our shop for the first time by offering free pizza and soda every night right after the show ends and giving away probably $150+ in raffle prizes each night as well (Variants and CGC 9.8's).

It's amazing how quick we are growing just two and a half weeks into being open, every day we are getting 3-5 new people that are pretty much guaranteed Regulars now as well. There are 15 Comic Shops in the greater Las Vegas area, but not a single one within a 20 minute drive in any direction. We just had our first MTG tournament on Wednesday and with not too much advertising we got ten people for a Wednesday night tourney, and everyone loved it. The Comics are going great, and I am probably going to go through about $500 per week of kids comics since there is a kids' Karate/Dance/Music/Tutoring studio right next door to me where 500+ kids walk by my door each week. I definitely under-ordered on kids books, I've pretty much sold every single issue I have.

The Sports Cards crowd has been a little light, and I've left several messages trying to advertise on local sports Radio (which worked well for me with the card shop I owned in 2003-05), but they won't return my calls. I guess they don't want advertising money, weird. Anyways, working my Butt off between opening the shop and then going to my steakhouse job on the Strip at night, but I am loving the way the shop is looking and how quickly people are finding us and being as enthusiastic as they are. I am going Gung Ho at the Con next month to get the word out, and I expect an explosion of new customers after that.

Just want to say thanks to all the Junkies, especially Indy. If it wasn't for you guys and getting me as crazy about comics as I am now, I wouldn't have opened the shop, and I really do think this is going to be my dream come true within a year and will be that crazy comic book owner in town that has had his shop for 30 years in 2043. That sounds like a good existence to me.

Thank god I don't live around your shop. That place looks like it would be a nightmare, on my wallet, for me. Nice selection of wax and comics? Bag and boarded new releases is definetly a nice touch. Looks like a great shop and if I ever finally make it to Vegas ill be sure to stop in. Good luck with it

But at least you could stumble home from Stoney's into your home. Now Stoney's is at Town Square.

Very happy with how things are starting out, I can't wait to see where things are about a month after the Amazing Las Vegas Comic Con. I have one full time Manager who is an MTG guru, and two part-timers; one who is an amazing artist who will do blank cover sketches for people at the store and another is a 19 year old who has brought in probably 25 of his friends so far, and about ten of them spend solid money at the store in our first two plus weeks. All four of us are great salesmen, pretty much any Trades/Hardcovers we are recommending to people, they're buying (and coming back for more).

We have some awesome promotions going, as we started with our first Wednesday Night MTG tourney, but this week I'm adding the first ever Tuesday Night Awesome (TNA) event. All TNA events will be free for everyone, and this week is Comic Book Trivia from about 7:15 to 8:00 PM where I will right up 50 questions on comics, with first place getting $30 in store credit and second place $15 in store credit, joining as either an individual or as a team of up to 3 people. We will also have TNA events watching hard to find animated comic movies/series, as well as The Gentlemen's Book Club where everyone reads the same Trade and just B.S.'s about it for an hour or so, then lead into the next Trade.

Just curious, what cool promotions or contests do your LCS's run that would be fun for everyone and a big hit for the shop? Thanks as always guys.

Nice shop, great to see your comics bagged and board. Hate it when going to LCS that have their comics not bagged and board on the shelves.

Nice shop! Along with all of the other comments, I love the exposed brick wall. As far as promotions, signings seem to be the big thing. Along with MTG tournaments, other games like Yu-Gi-Oh and Heroclix are popular. The one that is a bit different is an open mic night for comedians. Two shops do this on a monthly basis. I haven't attended any of them yet, but I bet it could be fun.

If I'm ever in Vegas I'll be sure to stop by!

i know a few shops that have sketch nights once or twice a month. shop just invites whoever wants to come by and sketch for a few hours. people do sketch covers for each other. draws in other customers to check out local artists, and maybe get a few sketches from them. great opportunity to move some sketch covers and network for you.

Wow, the place looks great. The brick and mortar is a nice touch to your brick-and-mortar store. I'll definitely make that a stop the next time I'm in Vegas. Congratulations.
