Pak I think you are doing a great job. This is only the second break for our club. You have explained everything in detail multiple times. I know I am just reiterating the obvious however when you have complex set like these where there are variations it is more difficult. Thanks and I look forward to the next break.

On my way to work this morning, I came up with a potentially faster way to do drafts. I'm not sure how it will sit with people, but it has the potential to speed things up considerably. The only reason I'm telling you guys this is because running a draft is really really really difficult. It takes a lot of time and has the potential to make people really impatient and angry. Almost to the point where it's not worth the hassle...

..but it is worth it!

I'm thinking ahead to Contenders Football and Bowman Draft Picks. Those breaks are heavily player/hit oriented. In order to save on time, I have 3 ideas I might try.

1) Only sell slots with multiple picks. So say there are 100 picks in a draft. Instead of having 100 people sign up or even 50 people, I would sell slot of 3-4 picks. That reduces the number of participants to 25-30 members.

2) Break the players/hits into 4 random groups. So let's say we do a player draft and there are 220 total players to draft. Each group would consist of 55 players. I would list the players and the draft picks 1 through 220. Have the mods random both list twice. Then I would make the cut offs 1-55 / 65-110 / 111-165 / 166-220. Depending on your draft number, will determine which players you get to choose from. What's interesting about this method, we could run 4 drafts simultaneously. Each group would only draft 55 players to complete. Basically, this is a hybrid between a random and a draft.

3) To keep the draft moving, I might instill a "no draft list" policy. Meaning, I will post my default draft list and you are bound to that list if you miss your draft pick. This way, the members can keep the draft moving along instead of me.

I enjoy doing these breaks, but it's just a lot of work. Especially when doing multiple cases with more than 50 hits plus a draft.

Anyway, as soon as I'm done with this break and the Bowman Chrome, I will have the Bowman Draft Pick posted. After that, the next break I do will probably be Contenders. Does anyone know when Contenders comes out?

To be fair, you're not getting much help from the participants in this draft. I've never seen a draft where so few people bother making their picks. It's pretty rude to both you as the host and those of us who want to make our picks and get our cards before the Super Bowl!

I like your ideas for making it faster. The one thing you could have done with this draft was to make the draft window start at 8 am and end at 8 pm. Even with the window you have now you will still have some people not around for their turn. People signing up need to know what they are getting into with a draft of this size. I've been in enough larger draft breaks to know what is expected of me as a participant.

Actually, the main reason I do the 8PM-1AM is because I have work, kids and a wife to attend to. Combine that with allowing people to give me a draft list, there is no way I could perform the draft for some of these people. And right now, my work is keeping me REALLY busy. I used to be able to check the forum a few times a day, but now I rarely get on the forum because I can't find time.

But I agree with what you are suggesting. Just to let the draft run. That's why in future drafts, I'm not going to allow people to give me a draft list. It's the default list only.

My other two suggestions, I came up with only because I was thinking of how I would do BDP. People really want to do player drafts with that product. But I can't imagine doing 220+ hit draft! So my idea to break it into 4 groups is to help speed up the process. I saw houdini break up one of his breaks into 2 threads, I'd probably do the same. Maybe we could do 2 groups with 110 picks per group drafting simultaneously. And shipping out to 50+ members is going to be a pain. I'd rather keep the group small. Anyway, I'll have something up after I finish shipping for my Bowman Chrome break. I should be able to close that break sometime this week so I can post the BDP break. I found out Contenders comes out early January. What do you guys think about Gold Standard Football?

Also, i'm going to instate a new rule starting tomorrow night.

If your draft pick comes up and we end up having to autodraft your pick, for the rest of the draft, you will be on autodraft unless you post a comment in this thread saying otherwise.

In other words, if you have picks that are close together, and you take the entire 30 minutes before being forced to autodraft, I'm going to assume you will not be on the rest of the night or don't care for the draft and will use my default list to make your draft picks. If you'd like to make a draft pick, you will need to say something in this thread.

Starting tomorrow. It's too short notice to start tonight. This will be a new rule for all my future breaks.

Man, he had an awesome game yesterday. I can't believe how unlucky the Redskins are. I think that's 4-5 years in a row where the Skins have been plagued with injuries. This year, we've lost Tim Hightower, Chris Cooley, Hankerson, Buchanon, JArvis Jenkins, Kory Lichtensteiger. Then Santana Moss, Atogwe, Jamall Brown, are all hurt. Unbelieveable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hate DC area sports...we can't catch a break!!! Only the Washington Caps play well, but choke in the playoffs.

Sorry guys just auto pick the rest of my hits please. I missed my 3 picks in the top 10 due to the draft being on the one night I couldn't be on. I was so confused about when the draft was actually going to happen. I thought to start this draft it was going to be on Thursday and then I thought it was going to be on Friday. Then I thought I saw something saying he might wait until this week to start the draft. It happened the one night I couldn't get on the draft started and I got all 3 of the picks I cared about drafted for me. I guess it is my fault but I have a full time job, 3 kids, and many other things to keep me busy also. Thanks for the break.
