An odd question... do they consider the holographic sticker that an auto is on, like the 'old' Upper Deck ones from the early 2000's part of the surface grade? It's weird to describe, but I've got one I'm considering sending in. It's like when it was lifted off the sheet, you can see some curl to the corner, causing a variance in the surface of the auto'd sticker. The card surface is perfectly fine. I would imagine it happened before being affixed to the card. Thanks for any input anyone might have.
edit- Here's what I'm talking about.

Well, whatever you send it in, you won't get back. Beckett keeps all the toploaders/magnetics. I just send it in a penny sleeve, toploader, and inbetween a few decoys. Should do the trick!

I'd go with one touch for the best protection, but put a material inside so that the card doesn't rattel in the case. Like a folded piece of paper in between the card and mag. But they prefer card savers/top loaders. Screw down would be the last one they want to get it in cause it takes longer to unscrew it. Though it is just for one.

no not on the surface of the card, i always put it in between the card and mag where there's extra spacing. Like a thin folded piece of white paper. And yes i think he does send it as how you packaged it but he must check if those are the cards you were suppose to send(judging from the last GS). And for any new people, snyder knows how to package it cause i was in the last 2 or 3 of his BGS sub and there was no problems.

Well, the problem with magnetics or screwdowns is if you send the card in a magnetic, with nothing but the card in the magnetic, it rattles around, and the edges can get damaged. The host won't take the cards out of their holders I assume, so how you send it to him will be how he sends it to BGS. If you fold a penny sleeve in half, and put it in the magnetic with the card, it will prevent the rattling. But I honestly don't understand why you would send it in the screwdown, it's more of a hassle, and it would piss off Beckett lol. I think penny sleeve/toploader is the safest (and easiest) way to go. Sorry for the long paragraph lol.

Personally - it doesn't matter to me. How you send them to me is how I send them to BGS. BGS prefers soft sleeve and top load/Card Saver. If you send magnetic or screwdown you won't get them back.

I don't like the sound of the paper thing mentioned above. If it were me? and I was trying to make a buffer or shim for a thin card in a thick case? i'd cut down a penny sleeve and fold it if necessary. Penny sleeve plastic material won't damage a finicky surface. I could see a poorly handled package causing paper to to micro-scratch a card.
