I sent messages on this to members a couple of months ago. I got a positive response back from some members and would like to give it a shot. I have contacted a Mod about this proposal and they agreed that this would be a very entertaining twist to the group, so we are good by doing this and do not have to worry about breaking any rules. Here is the proposed idea:

Hello guys, I hope everyone is enjoying the monthly group breaks. I was trying to think of ways of improving the monthly break. I know it sucks when you go through a dry-spell and do not get any hits for a couple months. I have come up with an idea and want to run it by everyone in the group to see what the majority thinks about this. The idea is to have a “Card Vault”, so this is my proposition. To get the “Card Vault” started, next month’s break would be an extra $10 for everyone interested in this; this will give us $300 to go towards the “Card Vault”. The $300 will go towards purchases off of Ebay or from blowout forums, with the main hit cards being picked by random members of the club. This would be the breakdown for amount that can be spent for each card

$150 – 1 card
$50 – 1 card
$25 – 1 card
$20 – 1 card
$10 – 2 cards
$5 – 3 cards
$1 – 20 cards
Total of $300 for 30 cards

Originally, I was going to have members choose the cards to get, but timewise from month to month, this just would not have worked. So, instead I will have members list like the top 10 players they would be wanting and find the best cards for the vault on Ebay and the forums. (I will look at past sales and make sure we are not overpaying for anything). Members can also offer ideas of certain cards that they see on Ebay or the forums.

Once the “Card Vault” is filled up with the cards, this is how it will work. I will type up the cards and list them 1-30. When the team/member list gets randomized by a Mod for the months break, whoever is randomized and is at the top of the list will be assigned with the card at the top of the “Card Vault” list. So, say card #1 on the list is a Kobe auto, the member who is #1 on the randomized list is assigned the Kobe auto. If the team he has at that spot does not get a hit, he wins the Kobe auto from the “Card Vault”. However, if he does get a hit with that team, he does not get the Kobe auto and it stays in the vault for next month. So, in the end, all members who do not receive a hit from the monthly break, get the hit assigned to them from the “Card Vault”. I think this would add a nice twist to the break, as if you get a top card, you will actually watch the break hoping you do not get a hit! Then, for the next month, whichever cards from the vault that are taken will get replaced by new ones that fall in the same price category, so the price for next month’s vault would be anywhere from under $1 to $10 per slot, based on which cards are taken from the vault.

I went through some past sales on ebay to get an idea on what our vault could look like. Here is the link to the image of the cards I compiled from ebay sales that would have worked with our prices per card.

So, for this example, some of the cards in the vault would be : 1. Kobe Auto 2. Shaq Auto 3. Rodman auto 4. Amare Auto 5. Jamison Auto 6. T.Hardaway Auto. And then game used cards of Lebron, Wade, Durant, Stockton along with some lower-end autos/gu of others.

I know this is a long read, but hopefully I explained it decently. Please ask any questions that you may have. I would like to get a response back from everyone in the club to see if this interests the majority or not. I will be sending messages to members on this as well and need to get a yes or no response from everyone. Thanks

I can bump you back to your original one spot and find a replacement. I know another member has said they are leaving as well, so we will have some replacements to find for next month, which is normal.

Hold my cards please and I'm supportive of the vault.

I didn't see it but I assume that slot prices would then be cost of boxes + refill vault for future months. Assuming half of teams don't get a hit each month then we'd be looking $3-$7 extra per month (depending on who misses). That makes the total cost around $20, which is basically a blaster, but here you get a guaranteed hit (which may suck, sure) and much higher upside (hobby packs and our fearless leader selecting the cheapo hits, so at least they're better names)

My biggest concern is your ability to cheaply find $1 cards. I'd recommend adding COMC to the sourcing list since the shipping would be cheaper than multiple sources.

Yeah, future months would be anywhere from $1 to $10 added to the price (depending on what cards leave the vault). As far as the cheaper $1 cards, I have a couple people that I have bought from on blowout that can provide me with some gu/autos but will also check COMC as well, as I would need to purchase them in a bunch to cut on shipping.

I still need to hear back from a lot of members before we can start this, so hopefully soon. Anybody who is not interested in doing the vault, that is fine, I will not force it on anybody. We will just adjust the totals accordingly and have it be an option for those that want it.
