eBay searching...

Ugh. I've been using character strings such as "/99" or "/499" in my searches. I use this when finding prices for completed sales on eBay. But just today I learned that eBay search will NOT match a "/99" if the listing has "01/99", for example.

That has been throwing off my searches for a long time now and I haven't been seeing all the completed listings I should have. Very annoying.

Does anyone know of a simple and easy to read online cheat sheet for doing eBay searches?

I just searched /99 on ebay and the top two items had 64/99 and 70/99 in the titles. Are you sure what you said is correct?

Bowman Ref with not show up in a search for Bowman refractor

I find sometimes Bowman refractor will not show Bowman refractors

lats Summer, Pete tago would turn into Pet Tag, it still will unless you put peter.

I just type in the name of the card. For instance, when I was searching for my Kenny Britt Exquisite Rare Materials card, I just typed in Rare Materials and it worked fine for me.

I think it applies to number of listings and available title/search comparisons.

Now when you search Pete Tago you get asked " Did you mean pet tag" instead of defaulting.

bballcardheaven is correct, my original problem was not what I thought it was. I was searching for "Sanchez Ultimate RC Auto /99", and it wasn't pulling up any completed sales. I got confused about the /99 being the problem, when in fact the problem was the "RC".

no problem, there are a lot of tricks. A standard search for all rookies could be something along the lines of:

(rc,rookie) (upper deck, ud,exquisite)

anything in parenthesis means a comma = either

I guess I have grown to dependant on google and it's inane ability to read through typos,bad spelling and the most random of inclusions

Are you certain that Ref* will also find those instances where only "Ref" shows up in the title? What I'm asking is, the * can also be nothing, right, it doesn't have to be a non-space character?

I just checked and it looks like Ref* is pulling up titles with only "ref", so it's working now. But I swear when I tested this a few months back, the * wouldn't pick up spaces, so I'd have to use Re* to find all instances of "Refractor" and "Ref".

But it's working now, so I guess I'm wrong, or eBay changed something in its search...

I'm not sure why anyone would want to share their eBay search techniques. I'm certainly not going to. It took me a few years to refine everything, but now I gave 20+ searches that give me pretty good deals.

Then again, if all you are out to do is get the jump on everyone else,then sharing may not benefit you

if it took you a few years you probably don't understand it well, lol. these things are pretty much common knowledge and nowhere near the secret you think they are.

I disagree with that. I think a huge part of buying on ebay is knowing how to find the few good deals among the piles and piles of overpriced crap. I really wish there was some way to limit your searches to only auctions that somebody else already bid on.

But you mean finding something no one else knows about then taking it for nothing. I mean, we all want a good deal,shipping cost seems to hurt a lot of sales. But when people price it fair and others drive the price up, well,then your really not getting beat out of a good deal.

I am a hobbiest. I resell when I get bored of cards. I am out for fun,not a second income,so my point of view is very skewed to that end.
