My sales keep going up. Now that they are getting caught up, I bet they have seen an increase in sales too. More cards added to the site will most likely add to more sales.

I just hope buyers keep checking out checkoutmycards and checking out my cards while they are there. :-)

I think the problem with the shipping cost has to due with the labor cost of the business. They're not making enough money putting the cards on the site so they have to make their money when people cash out or ship cards from the site. I hate the thought of it but if it meant that more buyers would come to the site for low shipping costs I would almost think charging sellers a commision may not be a bad idea, if kept to a reasonalbe level. I think lower shipping costs would definitly effect sales, especially for those of us that are trying to get rid of those cards worth less than a dollar. I mean what set collector wants to pay $0.15 for a common worth $0.40 and turn around and have to $0.25 for shipping. The buyer ends up paying total BV for a common.
I think that if they charged us 3% commision off sales and bumped the minimum asking price before sellers are hit with storage fees up to $0.30 this would work out. Another point as well is that the idea to put cards to $0.10 for budget processing may have been a bad decision, and once all these cards are processed things will change as well. I mean they added 29% more cards to the site in 2009 Q1 compared to 2008 Q4. In that same period of time items sold increased by 61% and page views increased by 32%. I wish that they would keep data for how many cards are actually leaving the site because some cards are sold 2 or 3 times before leaving the site.

Another note about commision.....I just tallied up my store credit history over the past 4 days (includes purchases and sales) and it totals 63.21. So if they charged 3% commision they would have made $1.90. I know thats not much but where they would make money would be from sellers that sell that $300 vintage card, they would make $9 commision. Sellers would adjust prices to effectly eliminate the 3% hit from commision, which would in turn increase commision revenue. The buyers would end up paying more money for the cards in turn, but with still cheap prices overall exposure of the site will increase due to the lower shipping fees.

So many different ways to look at things.

They could charge sellers a 15 cent fee per card sold every time a card is sold, and only charge buyers 10 cents per card after the initial $3. There's the 25 cents per card they are charging to ship now. The sellers that won't like this are the same sellers with inventory that slows the process of getting the money making cards onto the site.

I have thousands and thousands of cards I could sell for 10 cents each, but I think it's a waste of time and money at the moment. What's the point in selling a card for 10 cents when it cost you at least that much to list it? Just give the darn things away without wasting everyone else's time.

That's why I don't do it. I have a few cards listed at 10 cents I think because I didn't realize they booked that low when I sent them in. It was an accident.

Why not charge a flat shipping rate of $10. So whether you buy 1 card or 100 cards, your shipping will be $10. For the people that are only buying 1 card it might suck. But otherwise you're still paying $3 to have that one card shipped. And if you are only buying 1 card it might entice you to buy more cards to take advantage of the $10 flat rate shipping. Which would be an advantage to everyone.

To help balance out the flat shipping rate, they should charge sellers .05 per card on every transaction. Based on their Q1 stats that would have been an extra $4,665.80 from last quarter. And thats only based on the cards that were sold. Thats not counting the cards that changed accounts 2 or 3 times before they were actually sold.

mwheeler27,

When you said that "The sellers that won't like this are the same sellers with inventory that slows the process of getting the money making cards onto the site." a bell went off for me. These money making cards you speak of would generally go through express or priority service, which only takes 1-3 weeks. Your argument against lower priced cards slowing the process and holding up high end cards being added to the site doesn't hold true.

You also say that they could charge $0.15 a card to the sellers everytime a card sells. Why wouldn't they just raise the price of adding cards to the site. I don't agree with this because you would have to charge at least $0.30 a card to make any money what so ever. Prices like that would drive alot of people away.

Also, like others sellers, I'm trying to sell all of my lower BV cards to buy high-end cards. So couldn't you argue that you might see business lost yourself because my inventory wouldn't move with your proposed changes. I think your proposed changes would have a negative effect on overall sales. Take a look at customer testimonials, alot of people are happy with the site because of low prices. Eliminate low prices, eliminate happy customers.

I would also argue that they do not charge an extra money for international orders using the standard shipping service. International shipments should be on a totally different shipping scale. If they raised the prices on international shipping they could lower the cost of standard domestic shipping.

Frankly, I want to get rid of all my low priced cards. I do not care if I am making two cents or what. I want them to be gone. That is why I am pricing them so low. I think I will probably have a few more shipments, sell my higher stuff on ebay, and just keep my PC. I have a place on ebay that I am getting cheap stuff, and I will flip that for a few hundred bucks and be done with this. That is what I see COMC doing for me. Keep the stuff the same for a few months. The changing every month is old. Deal with it for a while.

yup the new shipping costs have turned me off comc as someone who was mainly a buyer (only flipped less than 10 cards). I shipped all the cards i had stocked up last month during the last days of the $25 flat shipping. Since then, I've only bought 1 card (brett cecil refractor from mwheeler ) and will only be picking up pc items. Btw mwheeler, pm me how much your looking to get for the cecil /5 and autos and maybe we can work out something
