don't forget too, that the cards sold for the first qtr 09 are slightly skewed a bit because im pretty sure A LOT of people went on shopping sprees to buy as much as they could to get in under the $25 max shipping umbrella...

and judging from what people are saying in this thread... it seems the majority of us sellers are seeing an almost complete halt to sales because people are finally realizing that the shipping costs absolutely suck if you want to buy a lot of cards.

so now you have people slashing their prices, trying to dump inventory (for a variety of reasons) to buyers who are slowly disappearing.

sooner or later its going to get to the point where mid-higher end card sales will trump the cheap-O card sales because shipping is such a huge factor. (Matt and some others are already there based on their inventory)

So no love for the "buyer boxes"? I thought it was a good idea that would definitely cut shipping costs.

how many cards have actually been shipped to buyers since March 31, 2009 and compare that to sample data from Jan 09 - Feb 09.
Even better yet I would like to see sales by month including April. I bet a lot of this months sales are from people cashing out last months sales, which is likely why Matt is doing so well.
I actually recently posted on another site (SCF) about COMC last week. I was shocked to see my post get deleted because I was advertising "my own" site. The Mod had never heard of the site and thought all the cards on the site were mine that I was advertising. The one person that was able to read it before it was deleted thought the same thing, wanting me to trade some of "my" vintage cards. Needless to say I was shocked that there are so many people that have not heard of the site yet.
Has anyone figured out a way to advertise the site through an Ebay listing yet? That will be my next challenge

this has always puzzled me why they (COMC) have't bit the bullet and plunked down some heavy cash to do some heavy advertising on other forums/sites/google, etc.

maybe if they had done this at their apparent peak last year, we wouldn't be in this position.

lol, yeah. He has offered a few different times. Always makes me wonder why he doesn't just make a bulk offer.

I would like to agree with you, however I'm not so sure this is the case. I'm sure it is in some instances, but in others it's simply not the case. I had several people run across the COMC website and ask if they could buy cards from me "privately". I told them that I would have to ship the cards to me, then ship the same cards to them. It would be much simpler, (and faster), if they spent the same amount from their Paypal account adding the same exact funds to the COMC site and buy my cards that way. Sure, I'm eventually out 20% of the sale supposedly, but it's much quicker and no hassle at all for me. Every single person that offered to buy cards from me outside of the COMC website eventually added funds to COMC and bought my cards.

For this reason, I know new buyers are joining still and my sales of higher-end cards are not completely a direct result of sellers cashing out to avoid the 20% fees. However, I wish every seller would buy from me to avoid the 20% fees. I have over $110,000 in asking prices and wouldn't mind cashing out $88,000 after paying COMC 20% in fees.

COMC has gone from being a cheaper alternative than eBay with no headaches, to more expensive* than eBay with more aggravation (shipping time).

*What I am referring to being more expensive here are the cards. If there is a good deal to be had, a flipper buys it and marks it up to eBays prices or higher. And if you are paying eBay prices or more, (in some cases, more than the BV!!) then why wouldn't you buy from eBay and get your card much faster?

..Just pointing out another thing that could be slowing down the buying..

You also have an added advantage where the shipping cost is a much lower percentage of the sale for each card you sell. Which is also why you are one of the few that want another fee (tax) for each sale.

It has been proven over and over, raising fees will lower sales. The economy is the same way, raise taxes and you take in less, lower taxes and you take in more. I think part of the problem is that they see a mountain of cards that need to be listed, so at this point they do not care. By the time they get caught up with listings it may be to late.
