Me too. I would probably spend a few hundred a month there, but don't have any interest in paying another $100 to have a package sent to me.

I think the issue we have surrounds bulk orders of hundreds of cards. It more has to do with the perceptions of buyers too. When there was a shipping cap, any buyer could buy and buy knowing that the cost per card for shipping would eventually not factor into the price of the card if, say 100 cards, were already purchased. But nobody wants to pay 25 cents for a card that books for 50 cents to fill a set when they would have to end up paying 40 or 50 cents after shipping, or close to full book. In theory, these set builders would otherwise be buying dozens of cards at a time. But why buy them on COMC when you can find 1-2 sellers on sportlots with the same cards both priced less and end up paying less in shipping? The perception right now is that shipping costs or out of line, and perception is all that matters when it comes to potential customers.

But in reality, the bigger issue is not when having orders shipped where shipping costs charged are twice the actual postage or less... it's when people (like myself currently) have 400 or more cards to ship. A 400 card order will cost me nearly $75 to ship. They will use a flat rate box and mostly recycled materials to ship it, which means the total cost they have (outside of labor) would be about $12. Also based on my past experience it will take them over a week to get it shipped out. So all in all, I will be paying 6 times the actual shipping cost and have to wait 10-14 days to receive my order. I can't imagine any ebay seller being able to survive with that kind of shipping policy. And that is who COMC is competing with, ebay/sportlots/etc sellers. And yes, there are advantages to buying on COMC that buyers wouldn't have on those other sites... but that really doesn't matter. If the perception is that the shipping costs are too high, buyers simply will choose to shop elsewhere... especially when most COMC sellers are probably asking more than average ebay prices for their cards for mid to high book value cards, and the low book value cards (cards priced under $1.00) are the least cost effective to buy on COMC given the shipping costs.

I personally accept the charges because I am a seller who benefits from not having to pay the 20% fee by purchasing the hundreds of cards that I want shipped. Buyers who don't have that benefit have no real reason to justify paying such high shipping prices. Why should they be worried about COMC's labor costs?? Not their problem. And besides, those labor costs would be paid regardless of whether the employee was pulling cards during their shift or not. I highly doubt they have a stable of hourly employees that ONLY get paid when they are pulling cards, and otherwise sit around the offices without pay waiting for the next order to be placed. Labor costs for pulling cards in a full service consignment site should be part of the costs to sellers seeing as its 100% necessary for the consignment process we are paying for to work. Buyers should not be footing this bill. I could go on and on (and I kind of already have ) about this topic... but nobody wants to read that much on the topic, apparently including the COMC staff who have yet to really address this issue in the forum after several weeks of fairly constant complaints on the topic... and that worries me.
Exactly. X100000

With a "Cap" on shipping, i was just buying to just buy... But now its not worth it buy or selling lower end cards.

I thought COMC was the greatest website for both selling and buying when i first discovered the site. Now i send nothing and finally used up my account money and just waiting to SHIP MY 300+ cards. If there was a cap, i would buy 300 MORE CARDS of all price ranges. I had made 2 bulk shipments with cards bought a low as .05 cause it didnt matter, the shipping was maxed out.
I WAS averaging $1000 a month in spending the first months, but that will stop cause of the shipping and selling fees dont cater to the lower end cards.
I was willing to spend $500-$3000 a month on cards and sell 1000's of cards a month just for the fun of it. (YES, i aint BS'in. this is my company Home ). I am not in the card business, i collected as a kid and now collect CARS(Vehicles) but cards are fun and every so many years i get back into cards...

I had a 5000 card shipment ready to ship to COMC to sell also but didnt realize the change in the fees. so its not being sent in.

the only cards you'll start to see move are mid-higher end cards because getting a handful of cards shipped to you isn't unreasonable...

but for most people who like buying at the lower end of the spectrum, the buying will all but come to a complete halt...

how are they going to sustain operations if 1)all the people who were sending in lower end cards - stop

2)people stop buying all together because of the shipping charges???

i'd love to see some better metrics since April 1 to get a good indication of the state of the site right now

I agree with everything being said on here about the shipping charges, lower priced cards, etc. I just am not seeing it in my results. My sales have jumped substantially in the last 30 days or so(part of that is that I had a lot more cards added in March or so).

Anyways, the large part of my sales have been cards that are 75 cents or less...a lot of them around 40 cents.

I do hope it keeps up, as they have about 6500 more cards that are due to start being loaded in late June. Most of those are base cards of star and semi-star players.

The sales may actually show a "Bump UP" in sales for a time being. People might be buying to drain out there account balances for their last shipment(like me). I think the effect might be felt a couple months later when the cheaper cards are all bought up and nobody sends the lower end cards in to replace the ones that are being sold.

I might still thinking about buying and possibly selling at a Higher scale(value) and less volume. I will wait and see.

Woke up this morning and checked and had a offer on 32 cards. It was half my asking price but most were cards that I couldn't probably give away. All inserts, serial numbered, refractors, and rookie/ auto rookie.

Didn't even bother to counter because getting rid of some of those cards was a blessing. I lowered most of my prices the other day so not sure if that had something to do with it or just hit the right viewer.

I would say 20 cards were booked at $5 or less so there are still some people not worried about the shipping or this guy is trying to flip everything.

Anyway still love the site and always enjoy seeing what I've sold when I sign in.

My sales have picked up substantially over the past few days.

I spoke to COMC on the phone yesterday, and we discussed the shipping fee structure just a little bit. I won't give out any details because they are still working on it, but things are changing. They know they need to tweak how they do shipping, and you should see some changes in the next month or so.

COMC is planning on being around for a very long time. Stay tuned in order to hear from them, is all I can say at this point.

Take care and good luck with your sales,

Matt
