The new storage fee is enough for me to not send anything else to them as my current inventory of (1137 cards) is grandfathered from paying the monthly charge for the next 14 months.
I agree, this was a step in the wrong direction. I posted a blog on their comments page and sent a copy in the email. We will see if they approve and publish it. This is what I sent.....

I like most of the new changes and adjustments made to the site… However, I dislike, the .01 cent storage fee. I understand about having it limit the amount of junk on the site, however I feel a better way of doing that would be to ship back the “crap” cards as you would a damaged or un-sellable card prior to posting.
I know from fellows collectors on sites such as Groupcasebreaks, and blowoutcards, many feel the same as I do regarding this. It will end up hurting the site in the sense of growth, which you stated you wanted more of. Collectors I have spoken to, as well as myself will now hold off on sending in larger, or multiple shipments of cards, because of the fee’s we would be charged at the end of each month.
I just sent 500 cards before the fee change, and will now wait till all those are sold before sending another shipment. Before I read the announcement, I was already putting together my next shipment of 500-1000 for the site, but instead of chancing loosing $5-10 a month, I will have to wait.
When collectors such as myself price my cards to only profit .10-1.00 per card, this fee comes at a big toll.
Dont get me wrong, I still think your site is a step above others, and will continue to use and sell on it, however, I feel this was a step in the wrong direction.

The new prices really don't change much....

Under the old system it cost .20 to process a card. Now, it cost .10

What that means is if you sell a card within 10 months, you are now better off than you were before with the new storage fee of .01

Price your cards right and monitor it and make discounts if you need to, and it won't be an issue.

I have been on the site for about 6 months and I have sold 3,550 cards.

Really when you think about it its not to bad as long as you're able to sell your cards within 10 months but I have to agree with TexansFan that this is a step in the wrong direction.

People are seem to be getting too emotional when it comes to storage fees IMHO. I guess they miss the Ebay Store fees for example ($14.95/month to have the store equals 1,495 cards plus the monthly storage fees).

My bigger concern with the COMC is increasing the per card postage to $.25 per card. I am afraid that will reduced larger quantity sales. The $2.00 first card was a bargain in the PO era of $1.34 bubble mailer postage and had to be changed.

Just my .02

All this means is on average you have to sell your cards in around 10 months to pay the same amount you always did. And that's on average, so if you sell a bunch of cards when they are first listed, that means the other cards in your account could sit there a lot longer than 10 months before your average cost to sell cards is over the old 20 cent average.

The problem this could present is the drop in people trying to flip cards.

There are a few, if not several, people which buy the 80-90% discounted cards and reprice them a few cents or dollars higher.

Since the "buyers/sellers" now have to pay storage....well, they may stop the practice. Before they could buy with no processing fee and no shipping and hope to make a profit. Now there profit margin could decline.

Personally, I'm going to be sending in more cards soon!!

Oh yeah....Tigers...you bought some of my cards...thanks! ShortStop_Cards

Wow what a boomshell. This is my question, does this affect cards currently in port? If so I would be so pissed since I already have 2,000 cards in there and if they are going to charge me 1 cent a month they should first give back the $200 for different in adding cards to the site fees..

Jacob,

Good news on the cards already listed. They will have free storage until January 2010 (14 months)

Ok thanks I have no problems with the new stuff then. Will just have to lower prices and get rid of those cards then. I mean 10 cents to now list a card is great, now you can send even more cards in. You can now send in a $1 base card and sell it for .20 cents and make a dime easily at 80% off.

This is my point. I think this will hurt, because majority of my cards went to collectors onsite who just repriced them.....

I did recieve a nice email back from the founder of CMC who took the time to respond and answer the concerns I brought up. Nice to see they care about feedback on the site! I will see how my 500 cards will be affected by this change before I send in anymore. If it doesnt slow down my sells, I will continue to send in large shipments.
