Here is my reasoning...see if this sells you any:

1) I have added 7,263 cards to the site. Multiply that by $.20 (as I joined 05/16/08). That equals $1,452.60 that is cost me to list the cards.

2) Let's say it cost me $200 to package and ship the cards (as I am not sure how much it cost me). That equals $1,652.60 to list, ship and get the cards loaded and ready for sale.

3) My total sales in 7 months is $8,508.05.

4) $8,508.05 (Sales) - $1,652.60 (Costs) = $6,855.45

5) Take 20% off ($1,701.61) to cash out and that leaves me with

$5,153.84 of nothing but profit! and still growing as I have 3,172 cards that are still for sale!

You might ask what kind of cards I have sold....You name it...from .50 cards to $200 cards and everywhere in between!
Your breakdown is exactly the reason I am not sold. You sold the cards for 8508.05 and if you get the cash you get 5153.84 (roughly 40% gone in fees). Plus you have 3,172 cards still for sale (at $0.01/month that is $31/month in inventory fees if they don't sell).
You say 'nothing but profit', well I am not fortunate enough to get my cards at no cost, so it would be impossible for me to have 'nothing but profit'.
If I wanted to pay 40% in fees I could stick with ebay for most of my cards and get the same result.

Let's take your $8500 in sales to a site that has no fees:
Assuming your sales are exactly the same....which I know they would not be, but just an assumption to compare how much those fees take:
You sell $8500
You have to pay PayPal and Shipping (which I understand also takes time, but to some people it is not an issue, and to others it is).
You sold 4,091 cards for $8500. That means you would have to spend $3355 in shipping and PayPal fees in order to get to the same $5153.84. Highly unlikey that there would be so many unique orders that you spend $3355 in shipping & Paypal. Maybe I'm wrong - I don't know
Sell a $200 card and pay 20% final value fee - you have $160
Sell a $200 card and pay shipping + Paypal - you have $191.7

There are positives and negatives for each system obviously, but there are too many things I don't like about COMC to send any of mine in. The #1A thing being that once I send those cards in I can't shop them around anywhere else. #1B being 40% in fees.

I agree with EElindy- I had in my first shipment 300 cards that in no way shape or form would sell and net any profit on Ebay.
$1+ cards- _ even after the fees and shipping I made $40+ and still have some available for sale....... so yes, that $100+ in sales is nothing but profit because I have no other outlet to sell them at- they arent sitting collecting dust at home

I don't have a card show to sell at. No shop would buy them, so instead of taking space I got money in return(or was able to buy some cards that I can use- I took a bunch of .25 cards and turned them into 5/$10 autos)
It wasnt like any of the cards were going to double in value in the next 50 years

Indeed a good point raised. My counter to that would be (in my case anyways) that most of the cards I send/sent in are #ed inserts, refractors, etc that would not sell on ebay/naxcom/collectorsrev/etc. I will gladly take the hit that I am taking in fees to move these cards that are doing nothing but taking up space in my room. Anything that is going to be higher value or new products will hit ebay for me, but any old "junk" that is sold on CMC is better than not selling it.

Why take the 20% hit and just use the credits for nice higher dollar cards or cards for the PC.

If you are in an area that has some decent shows pick up stuff you can resell for the same amount or some for a small profit. This way you get cash in hand.
It is a risk but might be worth it.

Side note guys, Cashed out 650 for 530, which I accounted for, but forgot Paypal fees on top of it... Hit me for another $16!!!

If you guys do cash out, I suggest paying the $3 and taking a check or MO.....

Just a heads up

You guys have to remember...........the main point is that you are selling cards that you normally couldn't sell on ebay or any other outlet. Regardless of the fees involved in any scenario its still technically profit. Unless you want to get specific and calculate how many boxes, cases, packs, etc you've bought in your lifetime that ended up in your "junk" pile at home. We are all technically losers in the grand scheme of things. JMO

Thumbs up

I don't pay the .01/mo as I got in before the fees began, so I get 14 months free storage.

Some of my cards I have tried to sell on Ebay without any luck. Yesterday, I sold a BV $150 Eli Manning patch card for $90. But, like the others stated most of the cards have been cards that would be harder to sell on Ebay/Sportlots/Naxcom, etc...

My time is worth alot of money, so just sending them my cards and having them scan them, store them, and ship them for me was well worth the fees in my book!

I have cashed out and I did the check thing, and they sent it within 3 days.

Okay, maybe not profit, but money that was already spent and "lost". If anything I am recouping my money.

After my divorce and the ex-wife not wanting any of my cards nor money from the sales, I figure I am doing okay! I figure I spent some of her money

That is exactly what most of my cards were. I just retired from the Navy, so I moved out of San Diego. Rather than move them with me, I found COMC to get rid of them for me. I threw a bunch in the recycle bin that were mostly commons, but the inserts, etc.. got sent to them.

It has been very worthwhile to me, and like I said I hated spending days scanning the ones worth it and putting them on Ebay.
